Nature of Work:
The Lead Player Development Athletic Trainer will manage the day-to-day sports medicine operations for all teams in the Rapids Academy. In this capacity, the Lead Player Development Athletic Trainer provides injury prevention strategies, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation for players' medical problems. The Lead Player Development Athletic Trainer works under the direction and supervision of the Academy Director, Player Development Athletic Training Coordinator, Head Athletic Trainer, Team Physician.
Examples of work performed:
  • Performs as Certified Athletic Trainer in managing the healthcare of players. Healthcare includes, but is not limited to first aid / emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, developing rehabilitation and prevention programs, as well as conducting rehabilitation and making medical referrals
  • Maintain a complete and up to date electronic medical record (EMR) and participation records on all players in the League-provided electronic medical record system.
  • Oversee, assist, and develop Academy Athletic Trainer and Athletic Training Intern.
  • Provide daily communication with academy technical and performance staff.
  • Provide individualized Return to Play (RTP) programs under the club processes and direction.
  • Provide at home training programs for those not traveling, injured, or during cancelled session (due to weather).
  • Implement an Athlete Education Program, in conjunction with academy performance coach, including but not limited to recovery, nutrition, strength training, and injury prevention
  • Order, maintain and inventory supplies and clinical equipment
  • Keep athletic training room and clinic area safe, clean and organized
  • Provide medical assistance to other members of the athletic training staff, as needed
  • Comply with all MLS and MLSNext medical policies and protocol
  • Comply with OSHA Standards with regards to blood borne pathogens
  • Travel as required

Qualifications:
Minimum:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year university
  • BOC (or CATA) Athletic Trainer Certification and in good standing
  • Current professional CPR certification
  • Possess personal professional liability insurance

Preferred:
  • Master's degree in athletic training or a related field
  • A CSCS, NASM-PES, XPS or equivalent certification
  • Previous experience with a professional or collegiate soccer team

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently & in a group setting and demonstrate good judgment skills

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to changing environments
  • Ability to acquire or produce and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license and meet company vehicle driving standards.

Compensation:
  • Base salary - $60,000-$65,000
  • Eligible for annual discretionary bonus
