Position Title:
Middle School Girls Basketball Head Coach

Reports To:
Student Activities Director

Position Summary:

The Middle School Girls Basketball Head Coach is responsible for the leadership, organization, development, and supervision of the Middle School Girls Basketball Program. The Head Coach will create a positive learning environment that emphasizes skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth while ensuring compliance with school, league, and state association expectations.

The Head Coach is expected to build a positive and inclusive program culture that supports student-athletes both on and off the court while modeling the values of Brush Middle School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize, supervise, and conduct all practices, competitions, and team activities.
  • Teach fundamental basketball skills, offensive and defensive concepts, game strategy, and player development.
  • Develop season practice plans and game plans appropriate for middle school student-athletes.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture emphasizing accountability, respect, and teamwork.
  • Promote academic achievement, appropriate student conduct, and school citizenship.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, contests, transportation, and other team activities.
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, administrators, officials, and fellow coaches.
  • Ensure compliance with Junior Patriot League athletic regulations.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and promote proper care of school-issued equipment.
  • Assist with scheduling, program organization, and budget awareness.
  • Model and enforce good sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
  • Attend required meetings, professional development, and coaching clinics.
  • Collaborate with high school coaching staff to promote program continuity and player development.
  • Encourage and support participation in multiple sports and activities when appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Previous basketball coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of basketball rules, teaching techniques, and player development.
  • Ability to effectively work with middle school-aged students.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must meet all district and state certification requirements (CPR, First Aid, coaching certifications, etc.).

Working Conditions

  • Seasonal position requiring evenings, weekends, and travel.
  • Primarily conducted in an indoor gymnasium environment.
