The Cloud and Connectivity organization is actively looking for a Linux Platform Operations Engineer to join them. Do you like to solve challenges and have an interest in large scale impact? What You'll Be Doing:

We are seeking a Linux & OpenShift Platform Operations Engineer with experience supporting and managing enterprise Linux and OpenShift environments. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining system stability, automating operational tasks, and ensuring high availability for mission-critical workloads, including leveraging modern AI-driven automation tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or similar) to improve efficiency and streamline engineering workflows. This position requires in-depth technical expertise, being a team player, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and operational excellence.

This role will have the opportunity to work with the latest Public and Private cloud IaaS services. Our goal is to improve all aspects of our infrastructure availability and reliability through repeatable patterns, new architectural designs, and improvements in observability to prevent outages and increase value across the organization, including the adoption of AI-powered automation and operational tooling. The role will partner with our global Lilly operations SMEs and connect with other platform infrastructure operations SMEs to deliver the daily operations associated with this area.

How You'll Succeed:

  • Be Bold: You will drive Infrastructure Operations to never have to fix the same problem twice through adoption of AI OPS, Event Driven Automation, and robust Observability.
  • Be Fast: You will accelerate initiatives in areas such as: Infrastructure AI OPS automation, cloud IaaS management, and cloud infrastructure as code to enable critical business projects.
  • Be Proactive: You will have groundbreaking chances to transform our operations processes using proactive, predictive, and automated AI & Observability capabilities.
  • Be Your Best: You will bring a high learning agility and Infrastructure operations / engineer skills to help us enable the Lilly Technology strategy, identifying tech opportunities, and accelerate our AI OPS journey.

What You Should Bring:

  • Linux Server & OpenShift Management
    Manage and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Ubuntu, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES).Experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, and containerized platforms.
    Handle VMware Vsphere, Linux-based VMs, and physical server management (HP, DELL, IBM).Configure and maintain Linux network services (DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls, TCP/IP). Technical expertise and leadership to turn ideas and concepts into operation solutions. Linux, Dell SAN storage or Cloud certifications are a bonus, or we are willing to help you develop.
  • Automation & Scripting
    Develop and manage Ansible playbooks for automation of system configurations and deployments.Write Bash/Python scripts for system management and automation.
    Utilize Ansible Tower/AWX for centralized automation.Leverage AI-driven automation tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or similar) to enhance scripting efficiency, accelerate development, and streamline operational workflows.
  • Incident & Change Management
    Follow ITIL-based incident, problem, and change management processes using ServiceNow.
    Manage incident resolution and root cause analysis for critical server issues.
    Oversee change management processes, ensuring minimal impact to production environments.
  • Technical leadership supporting enterprise grade infrastructure solutions and leading the deployment at multiple global locations.Strong Hands-on experience performing troubleshooting and Linux system administration with automated infrastructure availability and resiliency and resiliency at enterprise scale, including exposure to modern AI/ML-driven operational frameworks.
  • Consistent track record of high quality, agile focused, team-based solution delivery.

Your Basic requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years' experience as a Linux OS/ Platform Engineer.
  • Experience with cloud IaaS platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), including architecture, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Demonstrated experience or exposure to AI-enabled automation tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or similar), with the ability to apply them in engineering or operational contexts.
  • Experience leading a global large-scale Infrastructure project.

$64,500 - $151,800

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
