Job description

As MISO's Platform Engineer II, you'll help ensure our cloud platforms stay secure, reliable, and operating at their best. Your work will center on automation, process improvement, and enhancing the overall health of our cloud environment. You'll contribute to our cloud governance strategy, build automation and self-service tools, and support both private and public cloud solutions. You'll also work hands-on with technologies like GitHub, Terraform, GitOps, Azure, AWS, and Oracle.
We're increasingly incorporating AI into our platform operations, so you'll have opportunities to use generative AI, large language models, and AI-assisted frameworks to improve the platform and create new capabilities. This role is ideal for someone experienced in cloud technologies, Kubernetes, and automation tooling who is excited about applying emerging AI technologies to modern platform engineering. As MISO's Platform Engineer II, you will:
  • Drive secure, rapid platform development while ensuring high system availability through proactive monitoring and observability.
  • Evaluate and apply AI-assisted engineering technologies, including generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, and agent frameworks, to advance Platform Operations and capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize complex distributed systems with a strong customer-focused mindset and continuous improvement orientation.
  • Collaborate across engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to mature cloud adoption, configuration management, and governance practices.
  • Enhance operational efficiency through scripting, automation, orchestration, and the use of modern coding assistants and automation tools.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.

To be successful as our Platform Engineer II, we are looking for the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, or related field, or 6-8 years of relevant work experience
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and automation tooling, including GitHub Actions, server automation, and network automation.
  • Strong scripting capabilities using Shell, Python, and PowerShell across multiple operating systems (UNIX, Windows, Linux).
  • Hands-on experience with Azure cloud technologies, such as AKS, Azure Data Services, Azure AI Foundry, identity services, networking, ADFS, and cloud cost/capacity management.
  • Deep familiarity with modern platform engineering frameworks and tools including GitOps, Kubernetes, Ansible, Rancher, Docker, Grafana, and Prometheus.

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $125,000 - $150,000 USD annually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience.
Position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met. At MISO we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including 401k, vacation, sick and safe time, available on your first day of employment.
