Job description

ENSTAR is currently hiring for the summer season, with positions that typically run from May 1, 2026 through October 31, 2026.

What You Will Do:

As a Temporary Pipeline Helper, you will play an essential role within our Pipeline department, reporting to the Senior Manager Trans Operations. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with operating and maintaining pipeline facilities and gas compressors.
  • Installs operate, maintain, repair, overhaul, and test a wide variety of industrial equipment used in the natural gas transmission industry.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions; maintain a functional knowledge of the operation of the rotating and stationary equipment. Maintain documentation of changes.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of Solar centrifugal gas compressors driven by Solar Saturn natural gas turbine engines.
  • Make periodic preventative maintenance inspections of compressor station and gas odorizing equipment; diagnose existing or potential trouble; clean, lubricate, and adjust as conditions indicate.
  • Perform pipeline valve maintenance.
  • Perform atmospheric corrosion and exposed metal inspections.
  • Patrol pipeline Right-of-Way and file patrol reports.
  • Maintain pipeline markers.
  • Keep records; make verbal and written reports of work performed.
  • Perform related duties and has other related responsibilities as required.
  • Assist temporary helpers and contractor work crews performing mechanical and/or excavation work.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Operate heavy equipment, such as dozers, excavators, fork-lifts and backhoes.

What You Will Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of experience performing skilled work in both pipeline and rotating equipment installation, operation, maintenance and repairs.
  • Experience operating and/or maintaining centrifugal gas compressors with turbine engine drivers preferred.
  • Experience in pipeline construction and inspection preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Alaska Driver's License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR's Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, background, past employment, and driving record screening.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Knowledge of DOT gas transmission pipelines, centrifugal gas compressors, and gas turbines.
  • Ability to safely use of a wide variety of hand and power tools, heavy equipment operation (such as forklifts, manlifts, loaders, etc) as related to field and shop work; and safe work practices.
  • General knowledge of DOT (PHMSA) regulations with respect to Natural Gas Transmission.
  • Skill in:
    • Inspecting, testing, repairing, and installing industrial equipment according to established procedures and standards.
    • Working from and interpreting schematics and mechanical drawings.
    • Use of hand and power tools and equipment to install, maintain and overhaul mechanical equipment.
    • Making estimates of labor and materials.
    • Diagnosing and making changes to equipment.
    • Maintaining an inventory of spare parts.
    • Working with manufacturers to ensure equipment is properly operated and maintained.
    • Coaching, training, and directing less experienced Helpers and others on the specific procedures of the work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to keep accurate, complete records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task.
