Job description

Job Description
Grid Networks is seeking an experienced Network and Linux Systems engineer with expertise deploying Juniper network devices across existing wide-area networks.
You will join a small and friendly team of Infrastructure engineers with varied backgrounds and skillsets who all work on and support a variety of technologies. Our team is small, and every engineer contributes across multiple areas, influencing technical direction and participating throughout the full lifecycle of infrastructure projects. Our team designs, builds, and implements systems supporting hardware designers, software developers, mobile networks, and the customer-facing systems that bring them together.
This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starting and hands-on engineer who likes improving enterprise network infrastructure, but who also enjoys building and supporting Linux-based systems, virtualization, and automation. If you loathe silos and pigeonholes, and if you enjoy a variety of tasks and technologies to fiddle with, you may be happy here.
This is a full-time, on-site position at our office in Reston, VA.
What you'll do:
  • Lead efforts to migrate existing WAN infrastructure to new Juniper platforms, including design, planning, execution, documentation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Mentor peers regarding the new Juniper systems.
  • Support and enhance the organization's network infrastructure.
  • Contribute to Linux systems engineering and administration.
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of a variety of infrastructure initiatives.

You'll be a great fit if you meet the following:
  • 5+ years in network engineering, systems, or related infrastructure roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing, configuring, and maintaining Juniper-based networks, including routing (BGP, OSPF), firewall policies, VPNs, and switching.
  • Experience managing Linux servers running Ubuntu, Debian, and RHEL
  • Experience configuring and maintaining common open-source tools and software such as Apache, NGINX, Postgres, MariaDB, IPA/IDM, KeyCloak, IPTables, pfSense, Wireguard, IPSec, and OpenVPN
  • Experience creating and configuring automation with Ansible, AWX, Git, and Foreman
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complicated technical concepts to people with less or different technical backgrounds
  • Attention to detail in task execution and documentation
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with other teams
  • Able to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs (e.g., servers and switches)

It would be even better if you have experience...
  • Configuring Cisco equipment and networks
  • Working with OpenBSD, FreeBSD, and Packet Filter (PF)
  • Configuring and managing Quagga and Free Range Routing (FRR)
  • Building and configuring software-defined phone systems such as Asterisk or Freeswitch
  • Building and configuring monitoring systems like Prometheus, Nagios, or Zabbix
  • Building and configuring ELK systems
  • Working directly with VMWare, ProxMox, Docker, Kubernetes and similar systems
  • Familiarity with core mobile networking terms and technologies

If you meet the qualifications listed above and are looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity in a collaborative team environment, we encourage you to apply. We offer a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and opportunities for professional development.
