Job description

JAX Mercantile is looking for a hands-on Department Manager for our Clothing & Apparel at our Outdoor Gear, Farm & Ranch location in Broomfield, CO.  Share your enthusiasm for finding clothes that look amazing and are high quality and functional for your work or outdoor adventures.  Be one of the first people to see new product lines from our brands!  Product training, pro-deals, and our employee discount mean you can try out items in order to increase your knowledge and provide expert opinions to our customers.  Join our local, family-owned company and lead a team outfitting our customers who work hard so they can get outside and have fun!

Our Department Manager is responsible for providing outstanding customer service.  The role supports overall department operations by providing employee orientation and development, scheduling coverage, managing performance, leading by example when assisting customers and finding ways to improve the service provided by JAX.  Duties include coordinating with the buyers team to provide feedback on products, visual merchandising with product displays, managing inventory, stocking, and organizing the department.  Additional tasks include:

  • Creating schedules two weeks in advance
  • Ensuring coverage by working with employees or stepping up fill gaps when necessary
  • Providing honest and informative answers about our products 
  • Addressing loss prevention concerns
  • Participating in inventory responsibilities
  • Assembling new stock
  • Maintaining a clean and well-stocked area 
  • Complete record-keeping and creating reports 
  • Completes special orders 
  • Coordinates with others to plan for sales and promotions
  • Ensure proper documentation and pricing of products 
  • Works to engage and inspire teamwork with department employees

Our ideal candidate is experienced in retail management, is willing to pitch-in and help, is well-organized, takes initiative, communicates well, and has an engaging and positive approach to customer service.  Knowledge, skills and abilities desired for this position include:

  • Interest, knowledge, or experience in clothing and apparel required
  • Fascination with practical, functional and environmentally conscious features of clothing preferred 
  • Previous retail experience required 
  • Prior top-notch customer service experience
  • Prior retail lead or supervisory experience
  • Comfort and adaptability with learning new technology or computer systems
  • Ability to be flexible and work retail hours
  • Engaging and positive 
  • Effective trouble-shooting skills
  • Ability to present and maintain a professional demeanor

Schedule Requirements:

  • Must be available at least one weekend day 
  • Flexible availability required 

Pay Range:  $18.00 - $20.00 an hour
