Job Description:
  • Fundamental knowledge of the functionality of infrastructure event management tools, in addition to the support tools and resources available to the frontline for resolving problems.
  • Ability to interface and coordinate repair efforts with external vendors and companies that are utilized as partners or service providers. Responsible for working as a team with multiple Southern Company systems groups and the Technology Organization to ensure the overall integrity of the computing/mainframe networks.
  • Provide centralized monitoring, first line problem diagnosis and resolution for computing systems and mainframe technologies including batch streams on both the mainframe and open systems (Windows, Unix/Linux). When responding to events, the frontline analyst must carefully track and document all issues and resolutions in detail as a permanent record.
  • Monitor backup processes associated with disaster recovery for business-critical applications.
  • Provide first line problem determination and recovery for abnormal termination (abends) of applications.
  • Continuously identify process improvement opportunities with frontline tools, processes, and troubleshooting documentation.
  • Detailed, in-depth troubleshooting of events that involve the health and availability of the computing/mainframe environment.
  • Competencies: In-depth knowledge of computing systems troubleshooting techniques and concepts. Practical experience working with computing systems and respective alarm information.
  • Working knowledge of the OUA (Oracle Unified Assurance) application.
  • Experience running batch jobs in Jobtrac, Autosys and Control-M .
  • Working knowledge of computer systems/networks: Windows physical/virtual/clustered servers UNIX/Linux servers Exchange servers SQL databases Oracle databases Internet Information Services (IIS) Distributed File System (DFS) IBM mainframe Working knowledge using IBM Mainframe: z/OS -IBM Operating System Multiple Virtual Storage (MVS) console Customer Information Control System (CICS) Integrated Database Management System (IDMS) DB2 Subsystems Batch throughput Time Sharing Option (TSO) Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF) Job Control Language (JCL) Job Entry Systems 2 (JES2) MQ Series OPS/MVS Working knowledge of Production Application Support tools and Automated Schedulers: CA Jobtrac vDirect Connect Direct CA AutoSys BMC Control-M Characteristics: Responsible for modeling behaviors that support Southern Company's efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Education / Experience:

  • Previous experience working in 24x7x365 operations is highly desirable.

Work Location and Hours:
The Infrastructure Operations Center (IOC) is located at the Georgia Power headquarters, 241 Ralph McGill Blvd NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30308.
  • A secondary location is at the Nicor Gas General Office, 1844 W Ferry Rd, Naperville, IL 60563.
  • A third location is at the Birmingham Alabama Power Office.

This position is for a hybrid/remote worker.
The Infrastructure Operations Center is a 24x7x365 operation. Positions are scheduled in a fixed non-rotating schedule. Occasional extended hours, fill-in hours and on-call support are required as critical events occur.
