Job description

Head of Finance & Accounting

Hivemind is looking for a detail-oriented Head of Finance to join our team. The Head of Finance will own the end-to-end finance function, with a particular emphasis on FP&A, strategic finance, accounting oversight, treasury management, taxation, and reporting across the management company, funds, affiliated entities, and broader group companies.

As Head of Finance, you will own and upgrade the firm’s financial architecture: building scalable systems and durable financial processes, driving operational rigor, and supporting strategic decision‑making. You will translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights that help the firm make high‑impact decisions, while also mentoring and growing a team of bright accounting professionals. You will directly oversee the finance team, including Corporate Accounting and Fund Accounting, ensuring strong execution across both operating‑company finance and asset‑management finance. This role is perfect for those who are as comfortable diving into transaction‑level data with their accounting team as they are crafting high‑level financial strategy with the executive team.

What You’ll DoFinance, FP&A & Strategic Planning
  • Partner with firm leadership on budgeting, forecasting, liquidity planning, and long‑range financial strategy
  • Own the FP&A function, including annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, variance analysis, scenario planning, management reporting, and financial performance analysis
  • Build financial models and scenario analyses that support investment activity, operational planning, and strategic initiatives, group‑company planning, and fundraising decisions
  • Prepare clear, decision‑useful financial reporting for the executive team, including performance versus budget, cash runway, liquidity, operating KPIs, and forward‑looking financial risks and opportunities
  • Support fundraising and capital formation efforts across the group by preparing financial materials, forecasts, diligence responses, and investor‑facing analyses
  • Act as a strategic finance partner to senior leadership, bringing both commercial judgment and accounting discipline to key decisions
Finance Operations, Accounting & Controls
  • Design and implement scalable finance processes, controls, and operating procedures across the organization
  • Oversee accounting operations across the management company, fund, and affiliated entities
  • Manage month‑end close processes, reconciliations, and consolidated financial reporting
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the Corporate Accountant and Fund Accountant functions, setting clear standards for accuracy, timeliness, controls, and continuous improvement
  • Own key treasury and liquidity management processes across fiat and digital asset environments
  • Support the preparation of and review fund financial statements, capital account statements, allocations, and waterfall calculations
  • Coordinate capital calls, distributions, investor reporting, and supporting analyses
  • Review LPAs, side letters, and governing documents to ensure operational and financial alignment
  • Support audits, tax processes, K‑1 preparation, and external financial reviews
  • Coordinate with external administrators, auditors, tax advisors, payroll providers, banks, custodians, and other finance‑related service providers
  • Evaluate and improve the firm’s finance technology stack, including ERP, reporting, and operational tooling
  • Help design, implement, and review finance policies and operational procedures
  • Champion the use of AI and automation tools across the finance function, identifying opportunities to eliminate manual work, accelerate reporting cycles, and free the team to focus on higher‑value analysis and decision support
Our Ideal Candidate
  • 6+ years of professional experience in finance, accounting, fund operations, or related fields
  • CPA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent accounting qualification strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated FP&A experience, including budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, variance analysis, management reporting, and scenario planning
  • Strong accounting foundation, with the ability to review detailed accounting work, understand transaction‑level data, and maintain high standards of financial control
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, particularly as it relates to investments and alternative asset management
  • Significant experience with fund accounting, preferably within hedge funds, venture capital, private equity, or other complex investment environments
  • Strong understanding of cryptocurrency and digital asset operations preferred
  • Experience working with LPAs and other investment governing documents
  • Familiarity with audit processes, internal controls, and financial reporting best practices
  • Experience running or overseeing domestic and international payroll processes
  • Experience managing or mentoring finance/accounting team members, with the ability to set standards, review work product, and build scalable departmental processes
  • Experience supporting senior leadership, board‑level reporting, fundraising, investor diligence, or capital planning preferred
  • Commercial judgment and strategic finance orientation, with the ambition and capability to grow into broader CFO‑level responsibilities over time
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quantitative accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Intrinsically motivated, with the ability to thrive in a fast‑moving, entrepreneurial environment
Compensation

$190,000 – $225,000 a year

A well‑qualified candidate, based in New York City, can expect a base salary of $190,000.00‑$225,000.00. A standard offer from Hivemind Capital includes base compensation, incentive‑based compensation such as discretionary bonuses or upside, and a highly competitive benefits and perks package. Offers are determined by a number of factors including (but not limited to) the applicant’s experience, skills, certifications, as well as internal equity among our team.
