Performance Monitoring Remote information

What is Performance Monitoring in a remote work setting?

Performance Monitoring in a remote work setting involves tracking and assessing employees' productivity, work quality, and overall effectiveness while they work from locations outside of a traditional office. This typically includes using digital tools to monitor key performance indicators, project progress, and communication patterns to ensure goals are being met. It helps managers provide feedback, identify areas for improvement, and maintain accountability among remote teams. Effective performance monitoring can enhance transparency and support both employee growth and organizational objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Performance Monitoring Remote professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Performance Monitoring Remote professional, you need strong analytical skills, understanding of system performance metrics, and often a background in IT or computer science. Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Datadog, New Relic, or Splunk, as well as relevant certifications like CompTIA Network+ or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and clear communication skills help you interpret data and collaborate with distributed teams. These skills ensure efficient system uptime, quick issue resolution, and optimal performance in remote environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in a Performance Monitoring Remote role, and how can they be addressed?

To address these, it’s helpful to leverage robust monitoring tools, establish clear communication protocols, and prioritize proactive alerting and reporting systems. Regular virtual meetings and thorough documentation also support effective collaboration and timely issue resolution.

As the database operations mature and key improvements are implemented, this role will evolve to include ownership of our observability strategy with a particular focus on monitoring, alerting, and operational visibility.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys both deep database administration and proactive system monitoring, helping drive reliability across the entire technology platform.

What you will do

  • Ensure database performance, availability, and reliability across environments
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues in production systems
  • Implement best practices for database maintenance, backups, and recovery
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support application development and data needs
  • Optimize queries and database structures for performance and scalability
  • Support ongoing growth of data infrastructure as new data sources are introduced
  • Design, implement, and maintain monitoring dashboards in Datadog.
  • Create meaningful alerts that reduce noise and improve operational awareness.
  • Define service-level indicators (SLIs), service-level objectives (SLOs), and alert thresholds.
  • Develop monitoring strategies for databases, applications, infrastructure, and cloud services
  • Build executive, operational, and engineering dashboards.

Required skills, abilities, and education

  • Strong experience as a Database Administrator (DBA), ideally in a senior-level role
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases
  • Experience working with diverse data sources and environments
  • Solid understanding of database performance tuning and optimization
  • Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a growing, fast-paced team environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with Datadog monitoring and alerting.
  • Experience designing operational dashboards and observability strategies.
  • Knowledge of SRE principles and reliability engineering practices.

What we have to offer

  • The opportunity to grow alongside an early-stage company shaking up a big, old-fashioned industry
  • Flexible time off, including 12 paid holidays
  • 401k match plus 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision premiums
  • Company contribution to Health Savings Account
  • Stock options
