Job description

Nature and Scope

The EMT has contact with the staff of base hospitals, and outlying hospitals; with physicians, public service agencies (fire, police, highway patrol) and ground ambulance personnel; patients and their families; and with various service groups for public relations and educational purposes. The EMT has the authority to determine medical and therapy based on the assessment of the patient in keeping with established protocols; safety decisions involving patient and aircraft/ambulance; whether or not additional equipment should be taken; in triage, who to transport and setting of priorities; and the care, inventory, and ordering of standard medical supplies. Decisions that must be referred to the supervisor are management decisions outside established policies and procedures; flight requests outside of normal administrative guidelines - distance, search and rescue, private residence, prearranged transports, long distance transports; ride-along; equipment purchase and addition/deletion of different drugs; changes in medical protocol; and the coordination of public relations request.

Compensation

Compensation for Non-Benefited, Per Diem Pay Scale

  • Base Rate: $21.36-$30.45 per hour
  • Starting pay is determined using our clinical pay scales, which feature 13 steps recognizing up to 30 years of relevant experience.
  • Eligible employees may also receive shift differential and holiday pay.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Three (3) years of driving experience required.
  • Able to accept direct Paramedic supervision.
  • Self-starter requires little oversight with excellent written and verbal skills. 

Education

  • Current Nor Cal EMT-Basic or higher certification.
  • Current Healthcare provider CPR certification.
  • California Ambulance Driver's License
  • O.T. Medical Examination Certificate
  • Valid California or Nevada Driver's license.
Responsibilities

This position will require fieldwork - staffing and riding in an ambulance or medical helicopter. The candidate will be required to perform under adverse working conditions. These conditions may require special uniforms or protective clothing for all weather and airborne and bloodborne exposures. Candidates must able to walk, stoop, climb, twist, bend, run, squat, kneel, and work in awkward positions when moving patients from all types of locations and within the ambulance or helicopter. Additionally, the candidate will be required to perform various lifts and transfers of patients who may require the use of one or more of the following items: gurney, scoop stretcher or backboard, stair chair, wheel chair, neonate isolet, and possibly a two person manual transfer.
