What is a per diem BCBA?

A Per Diem BCBA is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who works on an as-needed or flexible basis, rather than being a full-time employee. These professionals provide behavioral assessment, intervention, and consultation services, typically for clients with autism or other developmental disorders. Per diem positions often allow for flexible scheduling, making them ideal for those seeking work-life balance or supplementary income. The responsibilities and qualifications are the same as a regular BCBA, but hours and workload can vary depending on the organization's needs.

To thrive as a Per Diem BCBA, you need a master's degree in behavior analysis or a related field, BCBA certification, and a solid understanding of applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles. Experience with data collection software, electronic health records (EHRs), and familiarity with assessment tools like the VB-MAPP or ABLLS-R are often required. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills are vital for collaborating with families and multidisciplinary teams while managing a flexible, on-call schedule. These competencies ensure effective client outcomes, regulatory compliance, and adaptability in varied clinical environments.
