The Opportunity:
The Senior Human Resources Generalist is responsible for overseeing employee relations, policies and procedures, recruitment, and talent management for a 100% recycled papermill. This position is responsible for serving as the business liaison for managing employee relationships while assisting with human resource initiatives designed to drive continuous improvement of HR and business performance metrics. Overall, the Sr. HR Generalist is responsible for providing day-to-day HR functional support to a team-based non-union paper manufacturing mill.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
  • Create strategic business partnerships with front-line employees and supervisors to promote positive employee relations
  • Create progressive plans to monitor, review and make suggestions for corrective actions for attendance, punctuality, conduct and performance issues
  • Implement human resource policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local requirements and reporting
  • Coach and advise front-line employees and managers regarding employee relations policies and proper operating procedures.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to manage the workforce plan development and implementation, assisting with compensation and training initiatives
  • Investigate questions and/or complaints to resolve employee relations issues
  • Payroll processing support and other administrative HR functions as assigned

What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of HR Generalist experience in a manufacturing or production environment - Preferred
  • Working knowledge of HRIS tools and payroll systems, employment laws, benefits, HR principles
  • Demonstrated experience managing employee relations situations
  • Possess exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to change in the work environment
  • Demonstrated success in applying fresh, creative thinking and a growth mindset to complex challenges/problems resulting in high impact outcomes
  • Self-starter; organized; attention to detail; excellent cross-group collaboration, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Possess a desire to grow and develop employees in a complex and matrixed business environment
  • Strong Communication Skills with the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • May require the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

The salary range for this position is $81,000 - $135,000. The benefits for this role include a bonus plan, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 15 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your pay will be based on factors such as your skills, experience, and education.
