Job description

Seeking a Payroll Specialist on behalf of our client, a real estate development company. This role is essential to ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant weekly payroll processes. Serving as a critical link between Accounting and Human Resources, the Payroll Specialist maintains payroll integrity, supports compliance with federal, state, and prevailing wage requirements, and provides expertise that strengthens operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage full-cycle weekly payroll processing with accuracy and adherence to established deadlines
  • Review weekly timesheets and coordinate with employees and approvers to ensure timely submission
  • Maintain and update payroll data including deductions, reimbursements, raises, bonuses, per diem, and allowances
  • Process payroll and resolve discrepancies or inaccuracies on a weekly basis
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee and manager payroll and timekeeping inquiries
  • Maintain prevailing wage payroll processes, ensuring all reporting meets federal, state, client, and jobsite requirements
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors, review audit reports, and issue corrections when necessary
  • Ensure payroll deductions, allowances, and reimbursements are accurate and aligned with employee elections
  • Reconcile benefit and employee insurance billings
  • Prepare labor, general ledger, and ad hoc payroll-related reports as needed
  • Manage expense reimbursement processes and ensure team proficiency with the expense platform
  • Support records and data generation related to raises, bonuses, and total compensation

Requirements include:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • OR Associate's Degree with 5+ years of payroll experience

Experience:

  • 3+ years in an accounting or payroll role with direct responsibility for payroll processing and reporting
  • Experience using SaaS payroll and expense management platforms

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail with a compliance-driven approach
  • Ability to interpret payroll regulations and maintain strong internal controls
  • Proficiency with payroll systems and process-oriented workflows

Certifications (Preferred):

  • American Payroll Association (APA) certification

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, wage and hour compliance, and audit requirements
  • Knowledge of prevailing wage payroll processes (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Miter payroll software (preferred)
