We are currently seeking a Payroll Assistant for a full-time position in our Syracuse, NY office. This position will be located within our Accounting & Finance Department.
The Payroll Assistant will be responsible for processing and administration of weekly payroll including review of employee timesheet submissions, job titles and pay rates, coordination with B&L's Human Resources department to ensure proper tax and benefit withholdings, reviewing and maintaining employee benefit time balances and assisting with 401(k) and employee benefit compliance as needed.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Reviews the weekly payroll and all associated data and records. This includes reviewing paycheck calculations, review of the quarterly payroll returns, and annual review of employee Form W-2s and payroll tax return summaries.
  • Reviews post-processing payroll reports.
  • Provides all required payroll reports to Assistant Controller or Corporate Controller after each weekly payroll.
  • Verifies payroll tax deposits.
  • Creates ad-hoc payroll reports as required.
  • Responds to routine employee inquiries concerning payroll deductions, self-service and accruals, wage garnishments, etc.
  • Audits all employee insurance program including group medical, dental and vision programs, group life and long-term disability programs. Monitoring is maintained on a current basis to determine the validity of the amounts of the payroll deductions, to ensure the timeliness of payment to the insurance companies, to update coverages and to recommend changes as necessary.
  • Maintains personnel and payroll database, including posting PTO accruals (including reconciliations between ERP and Payroll Systems).
  • Assists with 401(k) reporting and compliance, including annual nondiscrimination testing and other plan sponsor requirements.

Requirements
  • A minimum of an A.S. degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a similar degree program.
  • 2-5 years of applicable payroll processing or administration experience is required.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to independently identify and bring forward issues.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Estimated Pay Range: $30-37/hour.
Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, geographical location and market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
