Position Profile: Director of Finance at Retirement Income Solutions

 

Retirement Income Solutions is a locally owned, independent Registered Investment Advisor based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The firm was founded over 30 years ago with the core belief that client relationships should be built upon a foundation of unparalleled trust, integrity, and personalized service. The team is led by industry veterans who have extensive backgrounds building and developing exceptional relationships and our proactive management approach offers customized investment strategies for over 1,200 clients representing over $3 billion in assets. We have developed a team of more than thirty-five Wealth Advisors and support professionals and are seeking to welcome a Director of Finance to our growing team.

The Director of Finance will be responsible for overseeing accounting and budgeting functions for the firm, manage payroll and retirement plan administration, and lead management and annual negotiation of the company benefits plan. The ideal candidate will easily balance managing day-to-day administrative duties while contributing to higher level strategic initiatives in a client-centric environment with a high level of accountability, ownership, and integrity. This position will report to the firm’s Chief Operating Officer and will also include light building maintenance oversight, including issue communication and project coordination with third-party vendors.

 

Required Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or another closely related field.

·       8+ years’ experience in a Finance/Accounting Manager or Controller role at a financial services company (e.g. RIA/Broker Dealer/Investment Management) with minimum 25 employees demonstrating strong accounting/financial management and benefits administration knowledge.

·       Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management software (QuickBooks, Michigan Treasury Online (MTO), etc.).

·       Strong understanding of GAAP, budgeting, tax regulations, and payroll systems.

·       Strong understanding of HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) for benefits administration.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·       Proven ability to contribute to executive-level strategic discussions.

·       High degree of integrity and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with maximum discretion and sensitivity.

·       Strong organizational and leadership skills including overseeing daily team tasks and project management, participation in annual performance and goal setting discussions, and hiring/onboarding/terminating staff.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Finance or Accounting (or similar field) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred. 

·       SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP (Society for Human Resources Management Certified Professional or Senior Certified Professional) designation.

Position Responsibilities

·       Manage day-to-day accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and HR benefits administration.

·       Create and oversee management of firm annual budget and firm valuation.

·       Coordinate efforts with the Executive Team to ensure alignment with firm goals, objectives, and budget.

·       Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, tax preparation and filing, cash management functions, and annual audits to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

·       Manage payroll processing, timecard tracking, annual compensation reviews and distribution of annual bonuses.

·       Manage onboarding and offboarding employees, including benefit enrollment and payroll.

·       Administer employee retirement plan (401k), health insurance, and other benefits including medical, dental, vision, HSA (Health Savings Account), unemployment insurance, workers compensation, corporate insurance, etc.

·       Ensure compliance with state and federal employment and tax regulations and financial reporting standards.

·       Maintain and update employment records and update RIS Policy Manual as necessary.

·       Manage communication and continuous evaluation of finance/accounting/HR related vendors.

·       Primary communication contact for building maintenance requests.
