Job description

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join a Contract assignment in Warren, Michigan. In this role, you will help ensure employees are paid correctly and on schedule while supporting accurate recordkeeping and regulatory compliance. The position is well suited for someone who works carefully with sensitive data, communicates clearly with employees, and can manage payroll activities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
• Administer payroll cycles on a recurring schedule, ensuring earnings are calculated correctly and payments are released on time.
• Examine time entries, supplemental pay, deductions, and withholding details to confirm payroll data is complete and accurate before processing.
• Keep payroll files and employee compensation records up to date, including changes related to status, pay, and benefits.
• Monitor payroll practices for alignment with federal, state, and local requirements, as well as internal policy standards.
• Balance payroll registers, benefit deductions, tax amounts, and related reports to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Partner with Human Resources and Accounting to process personnel updates such as new hires, separations, compensation changes, and benefit adjustments.
• Address employee questions regarding wages, taxes, deductions, and timekeeping with professionalism and accuracy.
• Support year-end payroll tasks, including audit preparation, tax document processing, and payroll reporting activities.
• Handle confidential payroll and employee information with a high level of discretion and data integrity.• At least 2 years of experience supporting payroll processing in a business environment.
• Working knowledge of payroll regulations, tax withholding practices, and wage and hour compliance requirements.
• Experience using payroll platforms to manage full-cycle payroll activities; familiarity with Dayforce is beneficial but not mandatory.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills for reporting, reconciliation, and day-to-day payroll administration.
• Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail when working with payroll calculations and employee data.
• Ability to manage payroll for a large employee population, including experience with multi-state payroll processing.
• Background using ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll systems is highly valued.
