Job description

Job Title: Director of Finance

Location: Bakersfield, CA (Relocation Assistance)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire, Exempt

Position Overview

Legacy Staffing is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Finance on behalf of a healthcare client. This senior leadership role is responsible for directing the organization's financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, payroll, purchasing, financial reporting, compliance, and long-range financial planning.

The Director of Finance partners closely with executive leadership to ensure the financial strength and sustainability of the organization through strategic planning, cost controls, revenue optimization, and operational efficiency. This position also provides leadership to accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and purchasing teams.

Healthcare finance experience is required, and experience within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) environment is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all finance and accounting operations.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop short- and long-term financial strategies.
  • Support organizational growth through effective business planning, budget development, and financial analysis.
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives and long-range financial forecasting.

Accounting & Financial Management

  • Oversee accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, payroll oversight, banking, purchasing, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP standards.
  • Monitor organizational cash flow and prepare cash projections.
  • Safeguard organizational assets through strong internal controls.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial reports and executive-level financial analyses.

Budgeting, Grants & Compliance

  • Direct annual budgeting processes in collaboration with department leaders.
  • Monitor grants, contracts, and funding sources for financial compliance.
  • Prepare required federal and state financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting, healthcare, and regulatory requirements.

Revenue Cycle & Financial Performance

  • Oversee revenue cycle controls and financial performance metrics.
  • Monitor aging accounts and collection activities.
  • Analyze reimbursement programs, medical cost data, and utilization trends.
  • Develop strategic initiatives focused on cost containment, operational improvements, and revenue enhancement.

Purchasing, Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Provide oversight of payroll and purchasing functions.
  • Direct purchasing activities and vendor management processes.
  • Review contracts and negotiate cost-saving opportunities where appropriate.
  • Evaluate insurance programs and risk-management strategies.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources regarding employee benefits and insurance programs.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop finance department staff and managers.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Facilitate operational improvements across departments through data-driven decision-making.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience as a Controller, Finance Director, or similar financial leadership role within a healthcare environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare accounting, revenue cycle management, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with grants management and healthcare funding sources preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience within an FQHC or community health center environment strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal healthcare programs, reporting requirements, and grant compliance.
