We are seeking a Payroll Manager to be based out of Auburn Hills, Michigan or Smyrna, Tennessee. This role will start within our Support Systems Division and grow into managing payroll for all US and then Global operations. Summary:

Responsible for the accurate, timely and compliant processing of multi-state (and potentially global) payroll operations. This role ensures adherence to all federal, state and local regulations while leading payroll systems, process audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Payroll Operations:

  • Responsible for managing payroll processing operations end-to-end for all employees (hourly, salary and international if applicable).
  • Establishes policies and processes that ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions for all cycles.
  • Interfaces between finance and human resource departments to provide accurate and useful information.
  • Develop and produce payroll-related statistical reports.
  • Directs the resolution of complex issues or errors.
  • Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Compliance & Tax Expertise: In-depth understanding of federal, state and local tax regulations, wage & hour laws, benefits administration and garnishments.
  • System Proficiency: Administer payroll software process for systems such as ADP and serve as subject matter expert.
  • Manage audits (internal/external) and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Ensures accurate and on-time governmental reporting and compliance.

System and Report

  • Serve as subject matter expert for payroll systems.
  • Maintain and optimize payroll systems.
  • Generate and analyze payroll reports, KPIs and cost trend.

Accounting and Reconciliation:

  • Reconcile payroll records with general ledger accounts.
  • Partner with Finance to ensure accurate labor costs reporting.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll variances and discrepancies.

Leadership and Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead, train and develop staff (if applicable)
  • Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support HR transformation initiatives and system upgrades.

Required Education, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area is required.
  • 5-8+ years of payroll experience including multi-state payroll administration.
  • Experience in manufacturing or multi-site operations.
  • Certifications: Possess industry-recognized credential such as being a Certified Payroll Professional.
  • Global Payroll:Ability to process global payroll processes preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Payroll software systems such as ADP.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
