Marcus Corporation is searching for a Payroll Manager to join our Corporate Shared Services team. The Payroll Manager will lead the management and administration of the organization’s payroll function and is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payroll in compliance with company policies and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The right individual for this role must enjoy working in a fast paced and deadline-oriented environment where accuracy is a must. This opportunity is based out of our corporate office in downtown Milwaukee.

What you will be doing:

  • Plan, organize, assign, and supervise payroll operations, including direct participation in processing
  • Administer all components of the payroll system and develop independent work plans while overseeing staff progress
  • Ensure accurate time recording through audits, training, and quality control measures
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations alongside internal policies to ensure compliance and equity
  • Hire, train, develop, and engage payroll staff, fostering professional growth
  • Escalate complex legal or compliance issues to appropriate leadership
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor the payroll department budget and expenditures
  • Design and implement surveys and system reviews to evaluate payroll effectiveness and recommend improvements
  • Track departmental goals using data analysis and adjust plans accordingly
  • Oversee payroll tax compliance, reporting, and serve as the primary contact for internal and external audits
  • Advise managers on payroll deductions tied to benefit programs and communicate system or policy updates
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc reports, maintain payroll record confidentiality, coordinate cross-functional activities, and participate in projects, committees, and other assigned duties

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or related field preferred; equivalent education and experience considered
  • Minimum 5 years of payroll processing experience and 2+ years of supervisory experience in payroll or related function preferred
  • Required proficiency in PeopleSoft Payroll (maintenance, processing, troubleshooting, configuration and setup)
  • Experience with UKG Workforce Management (timekeeping/labor forecasting) and ADP Tax Services preferred; payroll system implementation experience a plus
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and database management capabilities
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws and GAAP as it relates to payroll
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with ability to meet strict deadlines in high-pressure environments
  • Self-motivated with sound judgment; able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and high ethical standards; strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate across all levels
  • Ability to work onsite 5 days/week with flexibility for weekends and holidays as needed
