About the Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and optimize payroll operations across our growing workforce. In this highly visible role, you'll own end-to-end payroll processing, compliance, reporting, and process improvement initiatives while partnering closely with Finance, HR, FP&A, and leadership.
This is more than a payroll processing role. You'll serve as a trusted subject matter expert, helping shape scalable systems and controls that support company growth while ensuring an exceptional employee experience.
Reporting to the CFO, you'll play a key role in maintaining payroll accuracy, strengthening compliance, and improving operational efficiency across the organization.
What You'll Do Payroll Operations & Compliance
- Own full-cycle payroll processing for multi-state employees and international contractors.
- Ensure accurate and timely payment of salaries, hourly wages, commissions, bonuses, reimbursements, deductions, retroactive pay, and other payroll transactions.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and applicable international payroll regulations.
- Audit payroll inputs including timecards, PTO, leaves, overtime, compensation changes, benefits deductions, tax updates, and garnishments.
- Lead year-end payroll activities including W-2 processing, payroll tax filings, ACA reporting, compliance filings, and regulatory reporting.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
- Prepare recurring and ad hoc payroll reports for Finance, HR, FP&A, and executive leadership.
- Partner with Accounting and FP&A on headcount reporting, payroll expense analysis, budget-to-actual comparisons, and workforce planning initiatives.
Process Improvement & Systems Optimization
- Drive payroll process improvements and strengthen internal controls.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Troubleshoot payroll system issues and collaborate with internal teams and external vendors on enhancements.
- Support implementation of new systems, automation opportunities, and special projects.
- Act as the company's go-to expert on payroll systems, processes, and best practices.
Employee Experience
- Deliver exceptional support when responding to employee payroll questions.
- Handle sensitive information with professionalism, confidentiality, and accuracy.
- Help create a seamless, positive payroll experience for all team members.
What We're Looking For Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive payroll, finance operations, or related experience.
- Demonstrated ownership of full-cycle payroll processing.
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, tax regulations, controls, and payroll best practices.
- Experience processing multi-state payroll; international payroll or contractor experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of payroll accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and close processes.
- Advanced spreadsheet and reporting skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Self-starter who thrives with autonomy and enjoys partnering with senior leadership.

- Experience with Rippling.

Compensation
Salary: $100,000 - $145,000 annually
Equity: Competitive stock option package
Location: Remote within the United States (Pacific Time Zone preferred)
