Forward Traffic & Marking is a union contractor that provides traffic control and pavement marking services throughout Wisconsin and rumble strip application across the Midwest. A DAY IN THE LIFE

As a Rumble Operator, you will play a vital role in improving roadway safety by installing rumble strips on highways, county roads, and other transportation infrastructure throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest. You'll be responsible for preparing work areas, transporting materials and equipment, and operating specialized rumble strip milling equipment with precision and care.

Your role includes reading and interpreting project plans, assisting with layout and traffic control setup, and ensuring rumble strips are installed to specification and in compliance with project requirements. You will also perform routine maintenance and inspections on rumble strip equipment and support vehicles to keep operations running safely and efficiently.

Success in this role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and a commitment to safety and quality. You'll keep accurate job logs, meet project deadlines, and regularly communicate with your supervisor regarding progress, equipment condition, and jobsite needs. Daily equipment inspections and adherence to company procedures are essential.

Flexibility is key, as you'll work in changing environments and conditions, with duties that may vary from day to day. A strong focus on safe, efficient, and high-quality work is essential in this role.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma, equivalent, or acceptance into the MN IUOE Local 49 Apprenticeship Program
  • Valid Class B CDL with ability to operate interstate
  • Tanker endorsement required within 12 months of employment
  • Maintain an excellent driving record
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly and perform physical tasks (bending, kneeling, twisting, reaching overhead)
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to walk long distances and drive for extended periods
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to travel for multiple weeks at a time, including overnight hotel stays
  • Comfortable working away from home for extended periods
  • Ability to work safely near traffic and in hazardous environments
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safety protocols and company policies
  • Experience operating rumble strip milling or heavy equipment preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues is a plus
