About the Position
The Center for Innovation in STEM Education (CISE) has partnered with Apple to launch the Technology for Everyone 1 (T4E1) Program. This initiative aims to enhance student and teacher exposure to Computer Science, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
As a CISE Scholar, you will support coding and technology-related instruction under the guidance of the T4E1 Coordinator. You will collaborate with the CISE Instructional Team, serve as a role model for students, and empower educators to integrate hands-on projects and fabrication technologies into their teaching.
Through comprehensive training-including Apple Teacher Badge certification and Swift Playgrounds: Learn to Code 1 & 2-you'll work with peers to prepare lessons, assist local teachers, and lead both group and individual instruction sessions.
Position Type
This is a part-time, non-benefited position with employment through Toro Auxiliary Partners. Employment is at-will and may be terminated by either party at any time, with or without cause or notice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Training Completion:
    • Earn Apple Teacher Badges (iPad and Mac).
    • Master Everyone Can Code (Puzzles + Adventures) and Swift Playgrounds Learn to Code 1 & 2.
    • Develop proficiency in Swift programming.
  • Instructional Support:
    • Assist teachers in integrating project-based learning (PBL) and fabrication technologies.
    • Lead coding instruction, review concepts, solve problems, and assess understanding.
    • Support students through academic activities, app development, and challenge-based learning.
  • Professional Collaboration:
    • Participate in weekly planning meetings and assignments.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, teachers, administrators, and students.
    • Provide feedback to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Program Management:
    • Ensure a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment.
    • Adhere to workplace safety guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the T4E1 Coordinator.

Required Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Currently pursuing or graduated with a degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a STEM-related field.
    • Enrolled in at least 6 units per term/semester at a 2- or 4-year institution (minimum GPA: 2.0).
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Basic coding knowledge and ability to effectively explain concepts.
    • Strong communication and organizational skills.
    • Comfortable working with diverse age groups and backgrounds.
    • Patient and positive attitude with a passion for teaching and mentoring.
    • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Access to reliable transportation and internet for in-person and online work.
    • Clear LiveScan fingerprinting and background check before employment.
    • Proof of a negative tuberculosis test (Mantoux) within 60 days of start date (non-reimbursable).
