OVERVIEW OF THE PARRIS FOUNDATION

The Parris Foundation (TPF) is a grassroots community-based organization committed to providing free services to disenfranchised populations. We provide holistic services through passionate staff, visionary board members, and active volunteers who share Parrisโ€™ spirit and values. Although grassroots, TPF is a nationally recognized advocate for healthy life choices, educational opportunities, empowering communities, and strengthening families.
TPF was initially founded to honor the memory of Parris R. Gaehring, who lost his life at a young age due to violence, with the creation of the Parris Gaehring Memorial Scholarship to graduating high school seniors. Continuing Parris Gaehringโ€™s legacy of uplifting others and cherishing life, TPF grew quickly and now provides counseling wellness, educational services, as well as training and development services to individuals and groups in the community.

POSITION SUMMARY

TXWORKS Interns assist department supervisors and professional staff in organizational operations, research, and service delivery. This position is designed to build transferable skills while offering sector-specific experience. Depending on placement, tasks may involve educational programming, community health initiatives, data and information management, or professional consulting projects.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide administrative and program support including documentation, data entry, and report preparation.
  • Assist with research, information management, and technical tasks relevant to assigned department.
  • Support program initiatives that align with the organizationโ€™s sector and mission, which may include:
    1. Educational Services: Assisting with curriculum development, tutoring initiatives, academic program evaluation, and outreach to schools.
    2. Health Care & Social Assistance: Supporting client intake, victim services coordination, community wellness workshops, and social service outreach.
    3. Information: Managing digital records, assisting with IT systems, supporting online training platforms, and generating data-driven reports.
    4. Professional/Scientific/Technical Services: Conducting research, drafting technical reports or policy briefs, supporting consulting projects, and assisting in grant and contract deliverables.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, or evaluation of organizational projects.
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute to team discussions on strategies and outcomes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Represent the organization and the TXWORKS Internship Program professionally at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operational and programmatic goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in a Texas college or university participating in the TXWORKS Internship Program. Please complete the TXWORKS Student Eligibility Form.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and/or industry-specific software tools.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated interest in one or more of the following sectors: educational services, healthcare and social assistance, information technology, or professional/scientific services.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional standards in all interactions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience in administrative support, research, or customer service.
  • Bilingual abilities (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with community-based programs or service delivery models relevant to the assigned sector.
COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE
  • Paid internship; hourly rate $16.00 per hour; an average of 6 hours per week.
  • Flexible schedule within Mondayโ€“Friday business hours; some positions may require evenings or weekends based on sector needs.
  • Internship duration and hours per week vary by placement.
SUPERVISION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Supervised by department leads and/or program coordinators.
  • Access to on-the-job training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Exit interview and performance review conducted to provide feedback and career planning guidance.
