How much do hourly civil technology jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 5, 2026, the average yearly pay for hourly civil technology in the United States is $82,674.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $67,500.00 and $98,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can you make $500,000 as a civil engineer?

Hourly civil technologists typically do not earn $500,000 annually, as this level of income is uncommon in the field. Senior civil engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and management responsibilities may reach high six-figure salaries, but reaching $500,000 often requires additional factors such as ownership of a consulting firm or executive roles. Most civil technologists focus on project support, design, and analysis within standard salary ranges.

What is the difference between Hourly Civil Technology vs Civil Engineering Technician?

AspectHourly Civil TechnologyCivil Engineering Technician
CredentialsTypically requires a diploma or associate degree in civil technologyUsually requires an associate degree or diploma in civil engineering technology
Work EnvironmentFieldwork and site inspections, construction sitesOffice work, site visits, project documentation
Industry UsageCommonly employed in construction, surveying, and civil projectsUsed in engineering firms, construction companies, and government agencies

Both roles support civil projects but differ mainly in credentials and daily tasks. Hourly Civil Technicians often focus on fieldwork and site inspections, while Civil Engineering Technicians tend to handle more technical documentation and design support. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right fit based on their skills and career goals.

What engineers make $500,000?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving this level typically requires advanced skills, extensive experience, and working in high-demand industries or leadership roles.

What do civil engineers charge per hour?

Civil engineers typically charge between $50 and $150 per hour, depending on experience, location, and project complexity. Rates may be higher for specialized skills or consulting work, and some engineers prefer project-based fees instead of hourly rates.

Is AI replacing civil engineers?

AI is not replacing civil engineers but is increasingly used to assist with tasks such as data analysis, project planning, and design optimization. Civil engineers still require skills in project management, site supervision, and decision-making that AI cannot perform independently. The integration of AI tools enhances efficiency but does not eliminate the need for human expertise in civil engineering roles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Staff Civil Engineer in Sparks, NV.
Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced Staff Civil Engineer to serve as a senior individual contributor on our internal EPC Infrastructure Engineering team. In this role, you will independently deliver civil design and engineering across our battery manufacturing, recycling, and BESS infrastructure projects - managing work through all phases from planning and design through bid and construction. You will partner closely with internal multi-disciplinary teams and external consultants to produce coordinated, code-compliant designs that support the mission of building a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries and battery energy storage systems.
Responsibilities:
* Manage multiple civil engineering projects throughout planning, design, bid, and construction phases, including BMC1 sitewide infrastructure, plant projects, and off-site BESS deployments
* Independently develop high-quality civil engineering deliverables including construction documents, drawings, specifications, narratives, and calculations in conformance with IBC, ASCE 7, and local jurisdictional requirements
* Proactively communicate project needs, changes, schedule, and status to internal stakeholders and external team members
* Review drawings and proposals by vendors, engineers, and architects, and drive multi-disciplinary coordination across structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and I&C
* Manage external civil engineering consultants including scope of work, deliverables, and budget, and guide consultant designs through project completion
* Perform constructability reviews, support permitting and agency coordination with Storey County and other AHJs, and resolve civil RFIs and field changes during construction
* Ensure compliance with company engineering processes, applicable codes and standards, and regulatory and safety requirements across all design deliverables
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline; Advanced degree preferred
* Registered Professional Engineer (PE); Nevada licensure required or obtainable via comity within 2 months of hire
* 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and building high-tech/industrial infrastructure and operational facilities (semiconductor, solar, battery, manufacturing, etc.) or battery energy storage system deployments
* Experience in civil engineering design including stormwater management plans (flood control and water quality), SWPPPs, heavy civil, wastewater, and manufacturing/industrial operational construction
* Site development background with experience designing roadways, grading, pavements, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, domestic and fire water main systems, erosion and sediment control, and traffic plans
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and hydrology/stormwater management software
* Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, and NFPA with the ability to quickly research local jurisdictional requirements
* Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, external consultants, contractors, and AHJs
* Ability to conduct, document, engineering calculations and design packages applying established procedures and safety requirements
* Ability to manage external civil consultants through all project phases including scope, schedule, deliverables, and budget
* Ability to juggle multiple concurrent projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
