Job description

Position Summary: Operates multiple position telephone system consoles for Corning Hospital in addition to the Answering Service. Interacts frequently via phone contact with hospital personnel, physicians, patients, patient families, visitors and general public.

Education, License & Cert: High School Graduate

Experience: Prior experience is preferred.Typing and computer skills.Ability to use English grammar properly.

Essential Functions: 

1.Operates the telephone system console according to hospital policies and procedures. 

2.Answers all incoming calls rapidly with a courteous manner and dispatches all calls expeditiously. 

3.Maintains a listing of telephone numbers for persons on call for the hospital.

4.Pages key personnel upon request. 

5.Responsible for prompt response to all alarms located in the office. This requires observation, identification, and appropriate response to each alarm. i.e., Code H, Panic Alarms, Medical Gas Alarms, Lab Refrigerator Alarm, and Medical, Security and Facility Alerts. 

6.Watches monitors to assist Security Guard in maintaining security within the building. 

7.Adheres to all departmental and organizational policies and procedures. 

8.May perform, as directed, other related duties requiring comparable skills or responsibilities.

Duties Specific to the Answering Service

1.Answers incoming calls in a fast, accurate, and courteous manner. Answers with an appropriate phrase as directed by the Answering Service Client.

2.Maintains, in a current fashion, the following client information: date, time, the clients' oncall status, his locations and phone number.

3.Records all calls in the computer noting the following information:

a.Who called and the time

b.Callers DOB, telephone number, providers' name and brief description of problem

c.Complete message

4.Contacts the client as specified by the directions and relayed the information accurately.

Other Duties: Special Requirements:

1.Must possess high ethical standards with respect to discretion and regard for confidentiality

2.Attends department meetings monthly

3.Displays positive attitude/working relationships toward all internal and external customers.

4.Willing to accept additional responsibilities and duties related to the operation of the department as permitted.

5.Schedules benefit time appropriately.

6.Provides timely notification for absence or tardiness which is 2 hours prior to shift.

7.Arrives on time at start of scheduled shift and returns promptly after breaks and lunch.

8.Consistently strives to be an effective and productive member of the department and of the organization.

9.Is signed on the board and ready to work at start of shift.

The pay range for this position is $17.57-$25.32/hr,DOE
