*** This is an in-office/in-person based position ***
The Grant Writer has primary responsibility for the preparation and submission of corporate, foundation, and government grants as assigned, to advance the mission of ForKids.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Write proposals and collaborate with other team members to develop complete application packets for local, state, national foundations, and other public and private funding opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure files are maintained in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of local, state and national foundations whose mission aligns with that of ForKids.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state and local government grant opportunities which support the mission of ForKids.
  • Work with data and reporting staff to gather data relevant to applications.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of government, corporate, and foundation grant applications which support the mission of ForKids.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the application process and related goals necessary to maintain ForKids as an agency in good standing with local United Ways in ForKids' service areas.
  • Identify, define, and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to national, local, and governmental entities.
  • Research connections between ForKids staff, board, and statements with foundation boards and program officers and determine feasibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Customer Service:
  • Provide service to internal and external customers according to standards as outlined in ForKids Customer CARE Manual.

Financial Management:
  • Use agency resources (financial and non-financial) prudently.
  • Acknowledge and follow financial policies of the agency.

Community Engagement:
  • Participate in development and fundraising activities as needed and requested (ex: meeting with donors, providing tours, attending fundraising events).

Regularly engage, support and collaborate with volunteers to provide a meaningful experience.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field and related experience in grant or professional writing required. Direct experience preparing and submitting complex grant applications, and with government grants preferred.
Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to perform research and communicate information about homelessness, poverty and the education of at-risk children in a concise and compelling manner.
  • Ability to research grant databases and identify new funding opportunities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Valid driver's license with no more than three minor moving violations and/or accidents combined within the last 3 years, and no major moving violations in the past three years.
