Employment Status: Part-time
FLSA Status: Non-exempt/Hourly
Reports to: Pastor

Job Summary: The groundskeeper fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by providing a variety of services to maintain the physical grounds of the campus such as gardening, grounds maintenance, mechanical repair, general maintenance, and custodial services.
Essential Functions:
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school
  • Maintains good relationships and works cooperatively with many people, such as principals, faculty, staff, students, and parents
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Provides all ground maintenance services including but not limited to cutting grass, trimming trees and/or bushes, edging at sidewalks and/or other borders, weed control, and blowing of landscape debris.
  • Performs ground equipment repair and preventative maintenance
  • Maintains/monitors irrigation systems including sprinkler timers
  • Provides janitorial/custodial support services to staff including but not limited to internal and external buildings and grounds
  • Assists with set-up and cleaning of facilities for evening and weekend activities/events as directed by the Facilities Manager
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of grounds equipment operation
  • Knowledge of general janitorial skills and product application
  • Skill in minor repair of equipment
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others in the school community
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to exercise considerable caution in working with machinery and equipment
  • Ability to provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities
  • Ability to be on-call for emergency needs
  • Ability to maintain clear Criminal Background Check and driver's license search

Working Conditions:
  • Frequent evening and/or weekend hours
  • Exposure to climate changes, inclement weather/temperatures, fumes

Mental/Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of emotion
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks
