JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES:
The Web Content Specialist will provide web content development, editorial, content management, quality assurance, accessibility, and training support for Federal websites, intranets, and related digital information resources. The position will write, edit, review, upload, maintain, and publish web content using agency Content Management Systems (CMS); coordinate required reviews and approvals; maintain current and accurate information; and ensure web products comply with Federal accessibility and quality requirements. The role also supports training materials and staff outreach, image preparation, content certification activities, and coordination of web content processes and procedures.
Web Content Development, Editing & Publishing
โ€ขWrite, edit, revise, proofread, and format web content to ensure information is clear, accurate, concise, current, and appropriate for intended audiences.
โ€ขUpload, maintain, update, and publish content to agency websites and intranets using Content Management Systems.
โ€ขReview existing web content and recommend improvements to readability, organization, consistency, usability, and presentation.
โ€ขCoordinate content through required review and approval processes before publication.
โ€ขMaintain quality control of website content, data, documentation, and other digital information.
โ€ขOptimize web content for search engine optimization (SEO) while maintaining agency editorial, communications, and accessibility standards.
โ€ขSupport the development and maintenance of web pages, online documentation, user information, and other digital communications.
โ€ขEnsure consistency of terminology, formatting, messaging, and editorial presentation across web content and related digital products.
Section 508 Accessibility & Quality Assurance

Training, Documentation & Outreach Support

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE REQUIREMENT:
โ€ขBachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.
โ€ขMinimum of 5-7 years of experience in web content management, with at least 3 years of that experience within the last 5 years.
โ€ขDemonstrated experience writing, editing, proofreading, and maintaining content for websites, intranets, or other digital platforms.
โ€ขDemonstrated experience using Content Management Systems to upload, edit, maintain, and publish content.
โ€ขKnowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements and experience incorporating accessibility into web content.
โ€ขExperience developing and editing training materials, user documentation, procedures, presentations, or related instructional content.
โ€ขExperience performing content and data quality-control reviews.
โ€ขAbility to use graphic applications to crop, resize, recolor, and manipulate web images.
โ€ขStrong writing, editing, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
โ€ขStrong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, reviews, and content updates simultaneously.
โ€ขAbility to coordinate effectively with program staff, subject matter experts, communications personnel, web managers, and other stakeholders.
โ€ขAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
โ€ขDemonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable productivity and presentation applications.
โ€ขAbility to meet customer site and program requirements.
โ€ขU.S. Citizenship is required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE:
โ€ขExperience supporting FHWA, U.S. Department of Transportation, or another Federal agency.
โ€ขExperience supporting Federal research, scientific, technical, engineering, or public-information websites.
โ€ขExperience with transportation research, particularly highway or surface transportation programs, which FHWA identifies as preferred experience for this position.
โ€ขExperience working with Federal Section 508 requirements and accessible digital content.
โ€ขExperience with SEO principles and optimization of government web content.
โ€ขExperience coordinating periodic or quarterly web content certification and review processes.
โ€ขExperience supporting website and intranet content through structured approval workflows.
โ€ขExperience developing and delivering training to Federal staff on CMS, web content, or related business processes.
โ€ขExperience working with database content, including editing, reviewing, sorting, filtering, and maintaining data through graphical user interfaces.
