Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and self-motivated Operator to support the operation and maintenance of a Hazardous Waste Groundwater Treatment Plant. This position is responsible for monitoring treatment processes, operating plant equipment, performing inspections, collecting samples, maintaining operational records, and conducting routine maintenance. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently and possess strong mechanical aptitude with experience operating industrial equipment.
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• 5–10 years of experience operating industrial equipment or working in an industrial production environment preferred
• No wastewater operator license required
• Valid driver's license required
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and self-starter attitude
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required (may be obtained after hire)
• Enrollment in the HAZWOPER medical monitoring program required after hire
• Respirator fit test required (may be completed after hire)
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operations
• Operate and monitor hazardous waste groundwater treatment systems during assigned shifts
• Monitor control panels and make manual or remote operational adjustments as required
• Operate pumps, electric motors, valves, and related process equipment
• Monitor treatment processes to ensure safe and efficient plant operation
Monitoring & Maintenance
• Record operational data, meter readings, gauge readings, and process information in daily logs
• Observe equipment performance and identify abnormal operating conditions
• Perform routine inspections of plant equipment and systems
• Conduct basic troubleshooting and report equipment issues to project management
• Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and custodial duties as assigned
Sampling & Process Support
• Collect water samples and perform routine laboratory testing
• Measure water and oil levels in monitoring wells
• Transfer oil from oil/water separators to designated storage tanks
• Monitor and mix treatment chemicals according to established procedures
• Perform basic calibration of instruments and gauges
Documentation & Safety
• Maintain accurate site logs, inspection reports, and operational documentation
• Follow established operating procedures, safety policies, and environmental regulations
• Support a safe work environment by complying with HAZWOPER and PPE requirements
Required Skills
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
• Experience operating industrial pumps, motors, valves, or process equipment preferred
• Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills
• Ability to interpret written procedures, drawings, and operating instructions
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work safely in an industrial environment
Physical Requirements
• Ability to work independently in an industrial treatment facility
• Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and equipment operation
• Ability to wear required PPE, including a respirator, when necessary
• Ability to perform routine inspections and maintenance activities throughout the shift
