PMC: Director, Growth Marketing
Penske Media Corporation (PMC), the parent company of Rolling Stone, Variety, Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, SXSW, The Golden Globes, and many more brands, is hiring a Growth Marketing Director to lead contact strategy across a large, multi-brand portfolio. This role will help shape how we engage audiences across 20+ brands and 200+ newsletters, with primary focus on email, while expanding strategy across SMS, browser notifications, and audience activation into paid social.
This is a highly cross-functional role for a strategic operator who can set direction, build trust with brands, and also roll up their sleeves to help teams execute. The right candidate brings strong experience in CRM/contact strategy, understands editorial and audience growth environments, and is comfortable partnering directly with brand and creative teams to improve performance, including hands-on work around email template exploration and optimization. Experience with Zeta Global is strongly preferred.
As PMC values in-person collaboration and team cohesion, employees work onsite 4 days a week and 1 day remotely with a focus on maintaining a vibrant and inclusive culture.
Responsibilities
  • Own customer contact strategy across PMC's portfolio, with emphasis on email marketing and newsletter programs
  • Develop scalable frameworks for contact cadence, segmentation, targeting, messaging, testing, and audience journeys across 20 brands
  • Partner with brand, editorial, audience, and creative teams to optimize 200+ newsletter programs for engagement, retention, and conversion
  • Expand channel strategy beyond email to include SMS, browser/web notifications, and audience extension into paid social targeting plans
  • Create recommendations for how owned-channel engagement signals can inform downstream paid and performance marketing strategies
  • Advise brands on lifecycle and contact best practices while balancing portfolio-level governance with brand-level nuance
  • Work directly with creative teams to evaluate and improve email templates, modular design systems, and message presentation
  • Use data and testing to identify opportunities in open rate, click-through rate, conversion, retention, and overall audience engagement
  • Establish testing roadmaps and measurement frameworks across channels and brands
  • Help standardize best practices, playbooks, and operating rhythms across the portfolio
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and platform partners to maximize the value of Zeta Global tools and capabilities

Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of experience in CRM, lifecycle marketing, audience engagement, contact strategy, or related digital marketing roles
  • Strong expertise in email strategy and execution; familiarity with SMS and browser/push notification strategy
  • Experience managing or advising complex, multi-brand or multi-business-unit programs
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels
  • Strong background in segmentation, testing, personalization, and engagement optimization
  • Experience partnering with creative teams to improve templates, messaging systems, and campaign effectiveness
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative media or consumer brand environment
  • Experience with Zeta Global strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder-management skills

Nice to Have
  • Media, publishing, newsletter, subscription, or audience development experience
  • Familiarity with mapping owned-channel engagement to paid audience activation
  • Experience building cross-brand governance models without over-centralizing execution

A good faith estimate of the salary range is $140,000 - $160,000 upon hire + Bonus. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. If you have more or less experience than specified on this job posting, please apply and list your salary expectations.
If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors).
