How much do part time utility operator jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 28, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time utility operator in the United States is $26.09, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.91 and $30.77 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time utility operators, and how can they effectively manage them?

Part-time utility operators often face challenges such as adapting to rotating shifts, staying up-to-date with operational procedures, and balancing multiple tasks during shorter work periods. To manage these challenges, it's important to develop strong communication with full-time staff, proactively seek updates on plant operations, and maintain organized documentation of daily tasks. Building familiarity with equipment and safety protocols, even in a part-time capacity, helps ensure efficient and safe operation while contributing positively to the team environment.

What is the highest paid part-time job?

Part-time utility operators typically earn moderate wages, but the highest paid part-time jobs often include roles such as specialized consultants, freelance professionals, or skilled trades like electricians or IT specialists, depending on experience and certifications. These roles can pay significantly higher hourly rates than standard part-time positions, especially when requiring technical skills or certifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Utility Operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Utility Operator, you generally need a high school diploma or equivalent, mechanical aptitude, and knowledge of safety procedures. Familiarity with plant control systems, basic hand tools, and potentially certifications such as OSHA safety training are typically required. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and effective communication help individuals excel in this role. These skills ensure safe, efficient operations and quick response to system irregularities within utility facilities.

What are part time utility operators?

Part time utility operators are workers who assist in the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of utility systems such as water, gas, electricity, or wastewater, but work less than a full-time schedule. They may be responsible for inspecting equipment, recording data, performing minor repairs, and ensuring that systems run efficiently and safely. These roles typically require attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and may involve shift work depending on the needs of the utility company.

What jobs pay $400 an hour?

Part Time Utility Operators typically do not earn $400 an hour; such high wages are rare and usually associated with specialized, high-demand professions like certain medical specialists, top-tier consultants, or executive roles. Most utility operator positions offer hourly wages significantly below that amount, often in the range of $20 to $50 per hour, depending on experience and location.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Part Time Utility Operators typically do not earn $2000 a day, as their wages are usually hourly and part-time roles. High-paying jobs that can reach this level often include specialized roles such as certain consulting, executive, or high-risk construction positions, but these are generally full-time and require significant experience or certifications.
