Job description

We are seeking a motivated, self-starting individual to join our clinic as a Referral Specialist. As part of our team, you will process insurance authorizations, answer phones, maintain and update health care records, and perform data entry. This position requires a highly organized professional with excellent customer service skills and phone etiquette. Our ideal candidate also has prior experience within a medical office and knowledge of medical terminology.


Referral Specialist Duties and Responsibilities



  • Process insurance authorizations and update patient records

  • Provide customer service
  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Verify eligibility benefits

  • Verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations in a timely manner

  • Data entry of medical records and patient information

  • Initiate, process, and complete referrals to Specialists

  • Follow up on referrals within 2 business days.
  • Process Prior Authorizations in a timely manner.


Referral Specialist Requirements and Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate (preferred)
  • At least one year of experience in a medical office or similar setting
  • Accurate typing and data entry skills
  • Superb customer service and communication skills
  • Knowledge of HIPAA requirements regarding patient confidentiality
  • Must have knowledge of HPN/SHL, Tricare, and all major insurance portals
  • Must be able to manage computer applications with ease
  • Will be required to have a TB test and CPR Certification on file, prior to employment
  • Must have reliable transportation


This position will be part-time, through the first 90 days, then discussion of eligibility to transition to full time will take place.
