About the Department
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at NC State University provides a broad range of IT services to support our students, faculty, and staff. The Automated Workload Services (AWS) team, in the Shared Services Department of OIT, administers software packages for business process automation, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) processing, and report management.
Utilizing these tools, the team manages large volumes of business processing 24x7, 365 days/year, according to varying university business cycles. The team is also responsible for monitoring and maintaining Configuration Items in the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database (CMDB).

Essential Job Duties
As a member of the AWS team, you will bridge the gap between business needs and technology. You will work closely with application development teams to identify areas for process improvement and implement efficient solutions to meet business requirements. Using your technical and business knowledge to integrate and analyze data from multiple sources to draw conclusions and make recommendations, identify and investigate incidents, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve or escalate issues and track them to resolution. You will be expected to work independently and handle multiple concurrent time-sensitive tasks that require attention to detail using various software technologies necessary to support the University's enterprise applications and business operations requirements. Responsibilities include:
Process Automation
  • Develop, implement, and execute production and test processes and processing schedules using IBM Workload Scheduler, or other scheduling automation applications
  • Develop, implement, and execute secure data transmissions using EDI or similar tools
  • Configure and implement reports and bursting rules within the report distribution and archiving solution
  • Assist with automation efforts and onboard new resources to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database
  • Use scripting languages to connect, enhance functionality, and optimize back-end applications

System software administration
  • Configure and administer automated workload scheduling software
  • Configure and administer secure data transmission software
  • Assist in planning and implementation of software upgrades required to support functional enhancements or maintenance agreement
  • Perform routine daily and ad hoc administrative tasks, monitor performance, address errors, and modify configurations to meet business requirements
  • Monitor and maintain Configuration Items in the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database

Other Responsibilities
Technical Knowledge
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for automated workload scheduling, EDI processing, report distribution and CMDB integrity
  • Perform system level administration to troubleshoot incidents across software, OS, storage and network layers

Technical Solutions Development
  • Analyze requirements to design and implement efficient solutions to meet business needs
  • Create automation and scripting solutions to extend software functionality, and improve reliability, consistency, and operational efficiency

Technical Support
  • Perform analysis on errors, investigate root causes and either resolve or collaborate with other technical teams in development of resolution
  • Participate in an on call rotation, and work extended hours and weekends as necessary in support of business processes

Customer Service
  • Communicate technical concepts and potential solutions clearly to non technical stakeholders
  • Partner with customers, cross functional OIT teams, vendors and trading partners to identify solutions to meet business needs and areas for process improvement

Planning and Organizing
  • Participate in the lifecycle management of software solutions by planning, coordination and implementation of patching and upgrades
  • Develop and maintain documentation, operational standards and technical reference materials to ensure clarity and consistency

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
    All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Production support experience in a 24x7 enterprise environment
  • Experience managing batch processes with workload scheduling management software such as IBM Workload Scheduler, CA-7 and Control-M or experience with Electronic Data Interchange mapping and software such as B2B Integrator and Boomi
  • Demonstrated unix skills including basic shell scripting experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work independently, and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Capable of quickly learning new tools and processes, be detail oriented, and possess strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
  • Experience with ERP applications such as PeopleSoft or SAP
  • Experience with ServiceNow or a similar ticket management tool

Preferred Qualifications
  • Three or more years experience with IBM Workload Scheduler administration, including advanced skills such as creation and maintenance of operational run books, job modification, scheduling and rerun/restart
  • Three or more years experience with IBM B2B Integrator and advanced knowledge of EDI mapping
  • Unix software configuration and system administration experience
  • Three or more years of scripting experience with languages such as Python, PowerShell or Bash scripting
  • Three or more years of ServiceNow experience including CMDB Discovery and CMDB Dashboards
  • ITIL certification
