Job description

Peer Support Specialists will be expected to take the lead on engagement and
may also conduct non-clinical assistance by providing support to consumers after the initial crisis has been resolved. Peer Specialists will be required to demonstrate competency in providing peer-to-peer support prior to rendering services independently.
The 988 Program provides 24/7 mobile community outreach services to adults in crisis, including mental health, substance use, and suicidal emergencies. Staff dispatch to crises in teams of two, with a Crisis Response Specialist and a Peer Support Specialist, to provide assessment, risk assessment, safety planning, linkage to services, and follow-up care. The Program aims to provide crisis de-escalation without use of law enforcement unless necessary for consumer or team safety.
Hours:
Part time; various shifts; This position pays a $1.00 shift differential for the 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. shift.
This position has the following benefits:

  • Training opportunities provided throughout the year
  • Part-time staff are eligible for a retention bonus of $9.60 for every 8-hour shift worked, every six months

Education/Experience:
Must be trained in crisis intervention and are expected to have at least 2 years of continuous recovery from an SMI or SUD diagnosis and at least one year of field experience working with community individuals. Peer Support Specialists will be
required to participate in DMHAS approved de-escalation, mental health crisis, substance use crisis, and suicide training. Peer Support Specialists must possess a certification from at least one of the following credentialing entities: Addiction Professional Certification Board as a Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP) or a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), Mental Health Association in New Jersey as a Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP); NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals as a National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS), Certified Wellness Coach, or Community Mental Health Associate certificate.
Your driver's license must be in good standing, with no recent suspensions or violations of careless/reckless driving or excessive speeding of more than 20 MPH, and no more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years.
