Job Description
Job Summary
The Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN) in Surgical Services at Shriners Hospitals for Children provides expert, compassionate nursing care to pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role involves pre-operative assessment, intra-operative support, and post-operative recovery care, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and a safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • The coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care in the operating room.
  • Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  • Will function within the Shriners Hospitals for Children Professional Practice Model (FOCUSED), which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
  • The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN.
  • Provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in nursing (ADN)
  • RN license in state of practice (SC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), obtained within one year of employment as required by hospital

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
  • 2 years of nursing experience in an acute care hospital
  • Pediatric and/or orthopedic experience

The pay range for this position is $47.08 - $70.62. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
