Job description

SHIFT DETAILS:
  • Part-Time Position - Ideal for a Retired Engineer

This is a part-time opportunity with a limited schedule of approximately three months per year, averaging three workdays per month. Candidates must have the flexibility to be available on an as-needed basis.
  • Pay Rate-$42.95

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Move the train periodically to ensure it's operating properly.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
  • Perform inspections on the locomotive before and after runs
  • Safely operate the train between stations
  • Monitor on-board meters and gauges including air pressure, battery charge, amperage, and train speed
  • Troubleshoot minor breakdowns
  • Perform basic train maintenance when required
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, develop improvement, present to appropriate personnel, and lead or participate in the implementation of improvement
  • Wear personal protective equipment in all areas where required
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • None. This is an individual contributor role with required competencies: Functional/Technical Skills, Action Oriented, Problem Solving, Learning on the Fly, and Interpersonal Savvy

EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must have Occupational license-Certified Train Operator.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Experience preferred but not required
  • Excellent diagnostic skills
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to fluently communicate effectively both up and down the chain of command and with external customers when needed in a timely and professional manner
  • Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
  • Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Able to lift 40 lbs or more, utilizing proper lifting techniques.
  • Able to work in noisy and dusty environments.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods
  • Travel required
