What does a part time project management consultant do?

A Part Time Project Management Consultant provides expert guidance on managing projects efficiently, but works on a flexible or reduced schedule rather than full time. They help organizations plan, execute, and deliver projects by offering advice on best practices, project planning, risk management, and process improvement. Their role often includes training teams, facilitating meetings, and ensuring that project goals are met within the desired time and budget. Because they work part time, their involvement is typically focused on critical phases or areas where their expertise is most needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time project management consultant?

To thrive as a Part Time Project Management Consultant, you need strong project management expertise, organizational skills, and typically a background in business or related fields, often supported by a PMP or similar certification. Familiarity with project management software such as Microsoft Project, Asana, or Trello is commonly required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability are vital soft skills for collaborating with diverse teams and managing shifting priorities. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering projects on time and within scope, while efficiently integrating into various client environments.

How does a part time project management consultant typically balance multiple client projects and ensure consistent communication?

Part-time project management consultants often juggle several projects for different clients simultaneously, which requires strong organizational and time management skills. They usually establish clear communication protocols, such as regular check-ins and status updates, to keep all stakeholders informed. Leveraging project management tools and collaborative platforms also helps streamline tasks and maintain transparency. Adapting to each client's preferred communication style and setting realistic expectations about availability are crucial for building trust and delivering successful outcomes.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable, organized Part-Time Project Manager to support a commercial historical restoration project in Boise, Idaho. This role will serve as the primary on-site point of coordination between field crews, the off-site project team, and the client.

The Project Manager will visit the job site regularly, document progress, track labor and schedule status, and provide clear updates to the broader project team. This is a hands-on coordination role well suited for someone with construction, project management, superintendent, or field coordination experience.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Previous experience in construction project management, field coordination, superintendent support, or a related role preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable coordinating between field crews, clients, and remote project teams.
  • Ability to independently monitor project progress and provide concise, accurate updates.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Teams and basic digital project-tracking tools.
  • Ability to travel to the Boise job site regularly.
  • Historical restoration or commercial construction experience is a plus.
Work Schedule

This is a part-time, flexible position. Site visits are expected to average approximately 1–2 hours per day or occur every other day based on project activity. Additional time will be required for reporting, project tracking, and three recurring Teams meetings each week.
