About our Department:
The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is located near the City's downtown business and historic districts. Huntsville has 3 Police Precincts, approximately 500 sworn officers, 200 civilian personnel and patrols an area around 220 square miles. HPD is a "Professional Law Enforcement Organization" utilizing modern technology, state of the art equipment and comprehensive training techniques. The Department is an internationally accredited law enforcement agency through the "Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement" (CALEA). The Huntsville Police Department employs individuals of diverse backgrounds, education and experience. Candidates for employment are recruited from all areas of the country and from all walks of life.
Police Officer (Part-Time School Resource Officer) Position Overview:
This is law enforcement work specifically as a Part-Time School Resource Officer within the Huntsville City Schools System. Officer works as a liaison between the Huntsville Police Department and Huntsville City Schools. Plans, develops, conducts and coordinates a wide variety of Public Safety training programs for the City of Huntsville schools. Performs complex and specialized investigations such as juvenile, vice, narcotics, crimes against persons, and crimes against property; interviews and counsels juveniles and parents; provides information to the public.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency.
Must be an APOSTC certified law enforcement officer who honorably retired in good standing with no pending disciplinary action.
Must meet specific requirements as stipulated by the Alabama Peace Officer Handbook: Training Commission and other legal criteria as required. Please visit to review the APOSTC Administrative Code rules; APOSTC Administrative Code rules and website are subject to change.
Must successfully complete a pre-employment supplemental application.
Must successfully complete a pre-employment polygraph examination.
