Job description

Introduction
The Legislative Human Resources Office (LHRO) is the nonpartisan legislative office that provides exceptional human resources-related customer service to the Wisconsin Legislature. Our objective is to aid legislative offices with recruiting, developing, and retaining a high performing and diverse workforce within the Legislature; administer payroll and benefit processes; and foster a healthy, safe, and productive work environment, while providing all the necessary training, guidelines, and support required for success.
We offer an enjoyable work environment and an excellent work/life balance. We are located on the Capitol Square in beautiful downtown Madison, Wisconsin. Our offices are walking distance away from the Monona Terrace, the Dane County Farmer's Market, and historic State Street.
The LHRO is currently accepting applications for a friendly and enthusiastic part-time Administrative Assistant to join our office. This position is a non-benefits position working o more than 20 hours per week. Starting pay is $17.00 per hour. We are looking for someone who is able to work Thursday and Friday. The core hours are 8 AM - 5 PM.
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and is limited to 1,039 hours in 1 year.
Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the HR Section Chief, the Administrative Assistant provides confidential administrative support to the LHRO employees and all legislative customers; ensuring the office's efficiency, effectiveness, and professional image.
Job Details
Specific Responsibilities
  • Greet and welcome visitors to the office and assist them appropriately;
  • Answer the main telephone line and refer inquiries to the appropriate LHRO staff;
  • Recieve and sort daily mail, interact with messengers, and facilitate mail services;
  • Update/organize internal documents in legislative document repository;
  • Assist with/complete various HR related projects, as assigned:
  • Assist with the Partners in Giving campaign (held in October/November of each year);
  • Maintain the reception area to project a professional image.
Customer Service
Provide outstanding customer service to our legislative customers and office employees by:
  • Maintaining a positive attitude and the ability to represent the LHRO in a professional and courteous manner;
  • Enhancing office effectiveness by providing support to all LHRO employees, supervisors, and the Director;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in the performance of assigned duties.

Qualifications
  • Ability to work in a nonpartisan environment;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with legislative customers in a professional and courteous manner;
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor;
  • Effective written and oral communication skills;
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures and systems;
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat applications.
