Job Summary:
The Pre-Op/ PACU RN is responsible for managing the care of the patient requiring a surgical procedure that requires moderate to complex assessments, interventions and levels of nursing vigilance. The Pre-Op/ PACU RN is responsible to the Director of Nursing for assigned Pre Op/ PACU unit.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
Currently licensed and in good standing with the Florida Board of Nursing.
  • BLS certification.
  • ACLS certification.
  • PALS certification.
  • Knowledge and experience in Perioperative care of the surgical patient.
  • Minimum one year ORTHOPEDICS and SPINE experience
  • Knowledge of specialized equipment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Minimum one year in pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative surgical patient care at outpatient surgical center.
Principal Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to assess patient status on admission to the preop area, the operating room and/or the PACU area and on a continuing basis.
  • Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors.
  • Apply the relevant scoring system/discharge criteria for patient transfer and score accurately as defined by organizational policy.
  • Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care.
  • Transfer care as needed.
  • Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patients condition and response to care.
  • Administers and document medications, solutions and treatments as prescribed.
  • Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as needed.
  • Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
  • Participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
  • Comply with all facility policies and procedures when providing patient care.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.
  • Maintains competencies to function in the RN role within specific area. (Ex. Preop, OR, and Pacu).
  • Demonstrates behaviors and actions which support the mission, goals and operations of the Surgery Center that also contribute to continuous service improvement.
  • Exhibits flexibility, adapting readily to changes in the work environment and/or work schedule.
  • Maintains a positive attitude, even during periods of stress and challenge.
  • Maintains positive attendance and communicate in advance any absences from work.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
