Job description

Overview

Shriners Children's – Portland is seeking a part time Registered Nurse to join the PACU unit of the Surgical Services department! This position provides care during the pre- and post-operative phase of a patients’ surgical experience. The RN will function within the Shriners Children's Professional Practice Model (FOCUSED), which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.

Schedule: Part Time - Days

Compensation range: The hired applicant's placement within the range is based on qualifications, professional experience, internal equity and education.


Responsibilities

  • Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues.
  • Outcomes Identification and Planning.
  • Implements the identified plan and coordinates care delivery.
  • Utilizes teaching strategies appropriate to the individual patient's condition and learning needs.
  • Evaluates the patient/family's understanding of and response to the plan or care.
  • Maintains a professional and therapeutic nurse-patient relationship and serves as a patient advocate assisting patients and families in developing skills for self-advocacy.
  • Utilizes current evidence based nursing knowledge, including research findings, to guide and evaluate practice.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor in Nursing, preferred

Experience

  • 2 years Acute Care Hospital, preferred.
  • Experience in the pediatric specialty of the hospital, preferred

Certifications and Licensures

  • RN License in state of practice, required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), required
  • PALS required
