Job description

PAY: $23.20-$24.14 hour plus applicable shift differential. Hourly compensation for this position is based on relevant education and experience and will be set within the listed range.
REPORTS TO: Manager of Operations/Director of Nursing
SCHEDULE: up to 24 hours per week night shift, with weekend rotation possible Schedule may vary according to departmental and Academy needs.

Position Purpose
Support the Health Center's mission - to promote students' development as healthy individuals and members of society - by administering and coordinating office activities and facilitating clinical services for illness or injury. Provide patients' needs in a manner that is professional, considerate and supportive of the students' health, safety and individual development.
This is a per diem opportunity. The Health Center is open 24/7 during the Academic Year (Sept-Beginning of June) and 5 weeks in the summer (Beginning of July through the first week of August). All shifts available days/evenings and nights.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provide care to students under the direction of a physician or nursing staff.
  • Room students with scheduled appointments, interview patients for past medical history, perform vital signs and point of care laboratory testing as indicated.
  • Prepare treatment room for clinical examinations and assist physician and nursing staff with treatments or procedures when needed.
  • Enter accurate medical documentation in electronic medical records, prepare medical record history for medical visits, reconcile medical records received from outside sources.
  • Follow Academy protocol for admitting and discharging students.
  • Provide support for clinical care by assisting with front desk administrative needs and answering phones.
  • When necessary, assist provider or RN with monitoring students.
  • Monitor and restock clinical supplies in exam rooms.
  • Clean and sanitize exam rooms between patients: including but not limited to: changing linens; washing tables, mattresses, emptying wastebaskets, and disinfecting surfaces.
  • Assist in keeping common areas such as the waiting room tidy and sanitized.
  • Present appealing and timely meals and snacks to students by ordering meals from Dining Services, maintaining stock of food and food supplies, and cleaning the health center's food service areas. Knowledge of potential allergens and student's dietary constraints.
  • Provide considerate, friendly attention to patients' non-clinical needs in a variety of ways, including but not limited to responding to inquiries from students and parents, providing linens as needed, and waking sleeping students on a timely basis.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of medical information according to Health Services' confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Gather and dispose of hazardous waste.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical health records.
  • Experience with phlebotomy, EKG's, IV set-ups strongly preferred
  • Point of care testing - collection and processing
  • Taking vital signs, providing basic emergency care, and assisting with initial treatment in conjunction with nursing, medical providers
  • CPR Certified
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment, under short time constraints, and within established deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students by building trust and credibility.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills as well as a strong customer focus.
  • A strict adherence to confidential policies is required.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficient in MS Office.

Position Requirements
Education and Licensure
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certification/Licensure as a medial assistant, licensed nursing assistant, or paramedic preferred.

Experience
  • 3-5 years experience in a health care setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with adolescent issues and experience interacting with adolescents is preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (e.g., sitting or standing) for extended periods while performing clinical duties and documentation.
  • Ability to move about the health center, go up and down flights of steps, stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift. Ability to respond promptly to medical emergencies.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 pounds as necessary for clinical care (e.g., patients, supplies, equipment).
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to perform medical procedures, operate equipment, and use a computer or electronic medical record system.
  • Adequate visual and auditory abilities to assess patients, monitor vital signs, and respond to emergency situations effectively.
  • Capacity to adapt to a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with interruptions.

Additional Requirements
  • Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years).
  • Clean Driving record (reviewed annually).
  • Pre-hire medical and immunization clearance.
  • This position is considered "Essential Personnel"
