This is where YOU fit in: your local Navy Exchange is in need of a personable Sales Technician (Computers & Electronics) to answer the call; a team player who is dedicated to supporting our local Naval community, and operational successes on a day to day basis. So, what does a typical day look like? What does it take to succeed?
• Provides instructions and assists customers with various types of basic computer problems/questions such as system and equipment compatibility.
• Explains and recommends various computer and audio/video merchandise and in-home installation services to customers to make buying decisions.
• Sells electronic goods where technical knowledge is required in such areas as: home entertainment systems, surround sound systems, Plasma LCD HDTV, personal computers (PCs), DVD players, cameras, camcorders, MP3 players, etc.
• Practices loss prevention procedures and performs other related retail sales duties.
• Uses a Point-of-Sales system, processing cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, debit cards (cash handling) including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customer.
The Qualifiers:
This is a progressive position. If incumbent hired as a Sales Associate, they may progress to the Sales Technician level without further competition once minimum qualifications of the Sales Technician position are met.
SALES ASSOCIATE:
No experience required. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
SALES TECHNICIAN (COMPUTER AND ELECTRONICS)
• Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to perform job duties.
• Must pass an employment criminal background check.
• 18 months experience in retail sales possessing technical knowledge of computers and electronics

Grade NF01
No experience required. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Grade NF02
Sales Tech requirements:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: One year of responsible experience in clerical, office or retail sales store work of any kind in which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 18 months progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing the kind of duties which constitute the principal work of the position to be filled and possesses technical knowledge of computers and electronics i.e. computers, cameras, video and audio equipment, stereo equipment, TVs, DVDs, etc, as it relates to quality, similarities and differences.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Study completed in a college, university, junior college, technical school or other comparable institution above the high school level may be substituted on the basis of one-half academic year of study for 6 months of experience provided such subjects relating to computers, home electronic sales and/or repair, photography, etc. At any level, specialized experience may be substituted for required general experience.
