• Troubleshoot production issues, analyze root causes, and deliver reliable fixes supported by thorough testing and clear documentation.
• Partner with IT leadership, a peer programmer, vendors, and business users to gather requirements, define solutions, and deliver projects from design through deployment.
• Develop technical documentation including scope, functional specifications, technical designs, process flows, object models, and testing plans.
• Support and improve integrations between IBM i applications and external systems using APIs, web services, delimited files, and FTP/SFTP-based exchanges.
• Work across application and infrastructure teams to support upgrades, vendor led changes, testing cycles, and deployment planning.
• Analyze current business processes and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, maintainability, and user experience.
• Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, documentation, and cross-coverage for business-critical systems.
• Protect company, customer, and personnel information by maintaining strict confidentiality and following established security practices.
• Provide occasional after-hours support for critical business issues as needed; weekend support is not typically required.
Technical environment and platforms you will work with:
• RAS/ERP running on an IBM Power10 environment, with RPG IV ILE development using free-form RPG, structured programming, and SQL.
• Mirrored production and high-availability environments supported through geographically separate infrastructure, using iTera Mirroring.
• Warehouse mobile devices integrated with ERP for warehouse management processes.
• Windows-based middleware and Java-powered integration services used to move and transform data between business systems.
• IBM web services that expose RPG service programs to online ordering and other connected platforms.
• Mobile sales and delivery applications integrated with the ERP platform to support field operations.
• Collaboration with infrastructure teams supporting VMware, disaster recovery, and backup/recovery platforms.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in CIS, Computer Science, MIS, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 10+ years of application development experience, including senior-level responsibility for analysis, design, development, testing, and production support.
• Strong experience with RPG IV ILE, fully free-form RPG, service programs, procedures, data structures, and modular IBM i application design.
• Strong experience with DB2 for i, embedded SQL, and SQL-based data access and troubleshooting.
• Experience with DDS display files, menus, subfiles, dialog-style interfaces, printer files, and externally described files.
• Working knowledge of IBM i operational concepts such as job scheduling, job logs, spool files, resource monitoring, and general system health review.
• Experience designing, documenting, and supporting integrations using APIs, web services, delimited files, and FTP/SFTP.
• Experience creating functional and technical documentation, test plans, process flows, and implementation details for new solutions and enhancements.
• MS SQL experience, including ETL-related scripting and support using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, vendors, and business users.
• Ability to understand the broader business context while breaking complex initiatives into detailed, executable steps.
• Strong attention to detail, a high level of accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience modernizing legacy RPG applications and improving maintainability, performance, and supportability.
• Experience with CL commands or programs and general IBM i development tooling.
• Experience with Java, C#, or other complementary technologies used in system integrations or middleware solutions.
• Experience with Route Accounting Software (RAS), warehouse management systems (WMS), mobile business applications, or business intelligence platforms.
