What are remote airline internships?

Remote airline internships are work experience programs offered by airlines or aviation-related companies that can be completed online, without physically being present at the company’s location. These internships allow students or recent graduates to gain valuable insights into the aviation industry, work on real projects, and develop relevant skills from anywhere in the world. Typical remote internships may involve tasks related to customer service, marketing, data analysis, operations, or aviation management. They are ideal for those looking to build experience in the airline industry while maintaining flexibility in their schedules.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Remote Airline Internship, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Airline Intern, you generally need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a relevant educational background, such as coursework in aviation, business, or hospitality. Familiarity with industry-specific software like reservation systems (e.g., Amadeus, Sabre) and proficiency in productivity tools like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace are valuable. Strong communication, adaptability, and self-motivation help interns succeed in a remote and collaborative environment. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively supporting airline operations and gaining meaningful industry experience while working remotely.

One of the most common challenges in remote airline internships is maintaining effective communication with team members and supervisors, especially given different time zones and the lack of in-person interaction. Interns may also find it challenging to gain hands-on industry experience and feel connected to the airline's culture. To overcome these challenges, it's important to proactively schedule regular check-ins, participate actively in virtual meetings, and make use of collaboration tools provided by the company. Seeking mentorship and asking for feedback can also help interns stay engaged and grow their skills, even in a remote setting.

Our customers currently include teachers in the most remote parts of the Amazon, researchers in Antarctica, digital nomads who travel via RV, emergency responders, commercial airlines, cruise lines, and residential users who live in more rural or developing areas. While users can get online within minutes almost anywhere in the world, we've only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink's potential. We are looking for best-in-class engineers to help maximize Starlink's utility for individuals, communities, and businesses.

This role will support broader certification needs for Starlink hardware and serve as a key technical leader for global market access programs. Engineers on the team will be hands-on, regularly interact with multiple technical disciplines, and ultimately ensure that Starlink is a global success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive end-to-end product compliance and global market access for Starlink hardware (EMC, Safety, Radio, and Environmental)
  • Coordinate certification programs across multiple disciplines and geographies
  • Collaborate with design teams to embed compliance requirements early in the development cycle
  • Manage relationships with test labs, Notified Bodies, and certification agencies worldwide
  • Own technical construction files and support global regulatory submissions
  • Identify and resolve complex compliance issues across safety, EMC, RF, and materials

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in and engineering or STEM discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in compliance and certification engineering (internship experience is applicable)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in product compliance engineering
  • Broad experience across EMC, Product Safety, RF/Wireless, and Environmental compliance
  • Hands-on experience with FCC, CE, UL, IEC, EN, RED, RoHS, REACH and related standards
  • Demonstrated success certifying consumer electronics or telecommunications equipment for global markets
  • Strong project management and cross-functional leadership skills
  • Ability to quickly ramp up on new regulations and standards
  • Excellent communicator who can translate complex technical/regulatory topics for engineering audiences

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission critical deadlines
