Overview:
Job Title: Middleware Engineer (IBM BAW / Cloud Pak)
Location: New York City, NY (Local candidates only)
Experience: 5-7 Years
Work Type: Hybrid (3 days onsite per week)
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Middleware Engineer with hands-on experience in IBM Business Automation Workflow (BAW) and IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation (CP4BA). The candidate will be responsible for managing, supporting, and optimizing middleware platforms to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of enterprise workflow systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Configure, administer, and maintain IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation (CP4BA) across on-prem and cloud environments (OpenShift/Kubernetes).
  • Manage middleware components including IBM WebSphere Application Server / Liberty, DB2/Oracle, MQ, FileNet, LDAP integrations.
  • Perform system monitoring, health checks, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
  • Apply patches, upgrades, and hotfixes with minimal downtime.
  • Automate deployments and operational tasks using Jenkins, Ansible, and scripting (Bash/PowerShell).
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, QA, and security teams for deployments and issue resolution.
  • Implement and support High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and ensure timely resolution.
  • Support weekend deployments and production releases as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to security standards and best practices across middleware environments.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with IBM Business Automation Workflow (BAW/BPM) in production environments.
  • Hands-on experience with IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation (CP4BA), preferably on Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Strong expertise in middleware technologies:
    • IBM WebSphere / Liberty
    • DB2 / Oracle / PostgreSQL
    • IBM MQ, Kafka
    • LDAP integrations
    • ElasticSearch
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools (Jenkins, Ansible).
  • Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and environment management skills.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Splunk.
  • Experience with Kubernetes / OpenShift container platforms.
  • Understanding of HA/DR architectures.
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools such as JIRA, ServiceNow.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in enterprise workflow automation platforms.
  • Exposure to cloud environments (AWS/Azure).
  • ITIL certification or process knowledge.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be local to New York City and available for hybrid work.
  • Willingness to support off-hours or weekend deployments when required.
