Cabell Huntington Hospital Part-Time Medical Social Worker

Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a part-time Medical Social Worker to work with our Clinical Resource Management Department.

The Medical Social Worker (MSW) exercises independent judgment and professional discretion in the practice of case management to a selected group of patients. The MSW collaborates with attending physicians and residents and serves as advocate to help patients and families navigate the acute episode of care. The MSW monitors patient's continuing stay for resource utilization and helps prepare them for a safe and timely discharge. The MSW is proactive and uses collaborative problem solving skills to meet the needs of the patients and physician. The MSW provides a full range of medical social work services as needed and relies heavily on such resources as family, community, state and federal agencies as well as the patient's resources to assist the patient's return to a productive life.

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • Social Work license in the state of WV required
  • Certification- Case management certification within 2 yrs post hire - preferred
  • 5+ years of experience preferred; Social work experience is required and this experience in the medical field is preferred. The learning period recommended is six (6) months for proficiency in the majority of tasks. Candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be able to build effective relationships with the healthcare team, and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
