Job description

The Pratt Library is seeking a friendly, detail-oriented Shelver to help keep our collections organized and accessible. In this vital role, you'll sort and return materials to their proper places, ensuring our shelves and displays remain neat, inviting, and easy to browse. The Pratt Library Shelver also plays a key part in creating a welcoming environment by helping connect customers to the people, places, and services that support the library experience.
Location: Pratt Library 3219 S. 113 W. Avenue Sand Springs, OK. 74063
Salary: $11.50/hr.
Status: Part Time - 16 hour/week
Schedule:
Tuesday 4pm - 8pm
Thursday 4pm - 8pm
Saturday 9am - 5pm
Job Summary:
To help customers have an excellent experience, sorts and places books and other library materials in proper locations; maintains neat, tidy and orderly conditions; helps connect customers to the appropriate zone or service, and assists with self-service circulation as required. Assists with attractively displaying materials. Must be flexible and adaptable throughout the workday in the type and location of work to be accomplished in order to provide superior customer experiences.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to read and perform alphabetic and numeric sorting;
  • Basic computer skills, including ability to learn library's automated system;
  • Ability to help customers with their basic computer needs, including e-mail, answering Microsoft product questions, and navigating the Internet;
  • Ability to provide directions.

Education and Experience:
  • Some high school education or training required;
  • No previous experience required.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work requires pushing moderately heavy items (up to 50 pounds), lifting up to 25 pounds, and very long periods of walking and/or standing, and frequently requires stooping, stretching and bending.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions, e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperatures (extreme cold or heat) and air conditions due to exposure to the outdoors.
