Summary
A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park's existing operational success. The purpose of the position is the work of a routine nature as a member of the Buildings, Grounds, and Parks Division Team. The position will require detailed maintenance litter clean-up to maintain a clean environment within the City of College Park.
Essential Functions
Independent judgment is required to identify, select and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for litter control throughout the City of College Park. This position is under the direct supervision of the superintendent.
  • Detail litter clean-up of/ not limited to city right of ways, park areas, bus stops, and other various areas. Maintain proper handling of loose litter.
  • Maintain proper disposal and bag count of litter.
  • Labor work with the use of hand tools and various other tools as needed.
  • Operate blowers, weed eaters, hand tools, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Make aware to the supervisor of anything needed to maintain cleanliness.
  • Work with other divisions as needed.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of City and department policies and procedures;
  • Demonstrate proper work safety and uniform etiquette.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety standards and practices applicable to work being conducted;
  • Skill in performing various manual labor assignments as needed;
  • Ability to perform general equipment/tool maintenance duties;
  • Ability to interpret instructions and efficiently carry them out with general
  • supervision;
  • Ability to perform tasks involving heavy manual labor.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average-weight up to one hundred (100) pounds, standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day, climbing poles, bending, crouching, or stooping, and using tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguish between shades of color.
