As of Jun 13, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time l&d cna in the United States is $46.36, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.43 and $60.58 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What do CNAs do in L&D?

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) in labor and delivery (L&D) assist nurses and doctors by providing basic patient care, monitoring vital signs, and supporting mothers during labor and postpartum. They help ensure patient comfort, maintain cleanliness, and may assist with newborn care under supervision. Certification and training in maternal health are often required for this role.

What is a Part Time L&D CNA?

A Part Time L&D CNA is a Certified Nursing Assistant who works part-time hours in a labor and delivery (L&D) unit of a hospital or healthcare facility. Their responsibilities include assisting nurses and doctors during childbirth, providing basic patient care to mothers and newborns, and ensuring a clean, safe environment. This role may involve helping with vital signs, transporting patients, and supporting families during the birthing process. Part-time CNAs typically work fewer hours per week than full-time staff, offering flexibility for both the employee and the employer.

Is there a CNA for labor and delivery?

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) can work in labor and delivery units, providing basic patient care to mothers and newborns under the supervision of nurses and doctors. Specialized training or certifications in obstetric or neonatal care may be required for certain roles in this environment.

What is the difference between Part Time L&D Cna vs Certified Nursing Assistant?

AspectPart Time L&D CnaCertified Nursing Assistant
CertificationsRequires CNA certification, additional L&D trainingRequires CNA certification
Work EnvironmentLabor & Delivery units, hospitals, clinicsHospitals, nursing homes, long-term care facilities
Job FocusAssisting with labor, delivery, postpartum careAssisting with basic patient care, daily activities
Employer & Industry UsageHospitals, maternity wards, OB-GYN clinicsHospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies

The main difference is that a Part Time L&D Cna specializes in labor and delivery settings, focusing on maternal care, while a Certified Nursing Assistant provides general patient care across various healthcare environments. Both roles require CNA certification, but the L&D CNA has additional training specific to childbirth and postpartum care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time L&D CNA, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Labor and Delivery (L&D) CNA, you need a certified nursing assistant credential, basic patient care skills, and experience or training in obstetric settings. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), vital sign monitors, and hospital safety protocols is typically required. Strong communication, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure safe, compassionate support for mothers and infants and effective teamwork within the fast-paced labor and delivery environment.

Can you work in L&D as a CNA?

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) typically works in direct patient care and healthcare settings, not in Learning and Development (L&D) roles. While CNAs develop skills in communication and training, working specifically in L&D usually requires additional education or experience in training, education, or healthcare education roles. CNAs generally do not perform L&D functions unless they pursue relevant certifications or transition into related positions.

What are the typical daily responsibilities for a Part Time L&D CNA in a hospital setting?

A Part Time L&D CNA (Labor and Delivery Certified Nursing Assistant) typically assists nurses and physicians with patient care before, during, and after childbirth. Daily tasks may include monitoring vital signs, providing comfort measures to laboring mothers, assisting with patient hygiene, preparing delivery rooms, and supporting the medical team during procedures. The role often requires flexibility, as workloads can vary based on patient volume and clinical needs. CNAs in L&D also play a key role in maintaining a clean, safe environment and may support newborn care immediately after delivery.

What is the highest paid CNA position?

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) generally have similar pay across roles, but those with specialized skills or working in high-demand settings like hospitals or long-term care facilities can earn higher wages. Advanced certifications or additional training may lead to increased pay, but CNAs typically do not have distinct higher-paying positions within the role itself.
